I was surprised how stable the friction mount is on my car dashboard. It is much better than having my GPS hanging from my car's front window.At first I was a little sceptical because the mount looked bulky, but I loved it once I tried it.

This is an excellent mount for the Garmin GPS. It is simple and easy to us, stable in operation and easily concealed. I have several cars and it is easily swapped from vehicle to vehicle and removed to the house for security.

Wished the Touch Screen was more accurate.

"I loved my previous Garmin Unit and had high expectations of the 765T. It had all the features I really liked about my previous unit, Bluetooth, FM Transmitter, plus new features like Lane Assist and Free Traffic. Plus it came in a nice feeling shell!

I tested them side by side and it did seem to do better when I was taking a different route, it quickly recognized the new path vs. trying to re-route me back to the previous one (like my older unit). But one thing I can't seem to live with is the fact that the Touch screen constantly mis-interpreted my touches. Even when I was aware of the issue, and being careful with what I pressed, it would still get it wrong. My previous unit never had this problem. I would recommend that you test out your unit before purchasing...as this was unacceptable. Even when Holding the erase button down and not moving my finger, it would erase sometimes, and type a '0' the other times. Calibration didn't help at all either. I thought it was faulty software but upgrading the firmware didn't fix the problem. After thinking I had a defective unit, I quickly did a search online and found others with similar issues.

The Free traffic was nice feature, but everytime it stated there was a traffic concern, I would stay on route only to not have any issues at all.

Those were my biggest complaints...so I'm going to return it tomorrow. I'd love to keep it, but with those issues, I just can't deal with having to re-type something 3 times before it gets it right."

Functional but efficient it is not

Before you buy, you should know:

I do like the unit. I'm up in the air if I'd still have bought (probably - I'm on a two month road trip and it does work, technically). My major issues are:

Routes:
I turned it on for my first test route (one that I've done nearly 100 times and know very well. The unit wanted to me to route all kinds of weird ways and at first I thought maybe I had a setting wrong somewhere. So I changed from faster route to shortest distance. It still wanted me to take a much less efficient route. I stayed the course and it would recalculate (often). I was driving a straight line route on a major Interstate between two points; and it was rather insistent on a much longer (distance & time) route.

Traffic:
I've had it warn me of an issue that I hit. It also failed to warn me of another issue that I hit. Lastly, it warned me of a dire traffic situation that didn't exist. The only reason I know it didn't exist is because I opted for it's alternative route and saw that it was trying to send me 30 minutes out of the way, to avoid a 20 minute delay. Needless to say, I was NOT impressed. The concept is great... the implementation needs serious work!



This isn't to say it's all bad. If you don't know how to get somewhere it will absolutely get you there. The only problem is that it is money in the bank that it'll take you the most obnoxious way. I was staying with one friend and went to pick up another friend and it directed me perfectly to his place. Total time, 30 minutes. On the return, he directed me to turn onto a freeway and take the exit near his place. Total time, 12 minutes. Efficient it is not.

And yes, I've turned Avoidances off. Am I glad I have it? Yes. It -will- get you there. Perhaps my desire for Google Maps level accuracy in a handheld is a bit much, but I don't think so. Google if you're reading this; make a portable unit that is as accurate as your Maps (tm) and I'll buy it.

Great GPS

I researched GPS units for a year or so online and through motorhome groups on Yahoo and finally decided to go with the 765T. It has proven to be an excellent choice. It was extremely easy to learn to use. So far it navigates very well and I love it. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Great features for a great price

I had to replace a GPS that I lost over Christmas - and fast. Went with the 765T because it had the same features I had in the other (think it was a 775T), but for the European maps. I guess I'll just buy those when the time comes for an EU trip.

Very nice GPS unit with all the features I need. I bought this model instead of the 200 series because of the better display, bluetooth and traffic info. I havent used either the bluetooth or traffic feature. This is a great GPS if you need those things, otherwise, you can get the 260 model for quite a bit less money. And, it is just about as good as the 765.

Excellent product

This GPS, albeit discontinued, is an excellent large screen device. Although we havent tested the product in confusing roadlines, I am pretty confident it will perform well. Moreover, I am happy with the price we paid.

Great Product

This GPS is really a good product - I've only found only a few addresses here in FL that are incorrect -which is amazing with all the crazy addresses. It helps you find your way and keeps you from getting lost. I can now avoid going on an unmarked dead end street and
find my way around easily! It is easy to operate and you can upgarde the maps on the computer if you get the USB cable. I'm very happy with this item so far!

Just a little better than the last one.

This is my 3rd Garmin. I got the first in 2000 and it cost almost $1,000 with the maps and everything. But it worked well and kept me from getting lost. When the maps became outdated, I bought a new, much cheaper one which was better. It died on me recently and this was a replacement and works quite well.

The title of this review says it all....and Garmin is THE name in GPS devices. My first one (660) is still alive and getting to where I need to go with no issues at all after 4 years.
This one was a gift....they believe it is like magic. They are a retired couple in their 60's (they have had no problem learning to use it at all). It is so easy and basically self-explanatory learning to operate.
"Where to" and enter where you want to go...press "GO" and listen for the prompts. I have not gotten lost going anywhere since the first Garmin I purchased. That is, of course...IF I had accurate info such as address, coordinates, or even intersection of my destination.
These things are GREAT.....

nice little device

Works well most of the time. Sometimes the directions are strange. We have left home to a known route and the device tries to send us another way, which makes no sense. Sometimes the map changes to a different view and we can't understand what we did to make that happen. One time the voice commands just stopped and all we had was the map. I imagine a lot of these problems were things we created and not the fault of the device. We purchased the dash holder with GPS and recommend getting it too. It's a nice little device overall. Would recommend if you find a good sale. Amazon had a great price on this before Christmas.

Garmin nuvi 265 WT

First off, Amazon is incorrect when then tell you that the model#, as printed on the device itself, will read "265WT" ~ it does not nor should it, according to Garmin support.

The Traffic Receiver is actually BUILT INTO THE POWER CORD (VEHICLE charger) and not inside the GPS device itself, contrary what I've read from various owner postings. There's a rectangular box inline with the car charger cord which is how the GPS receives traffic updates, provided you have an active subscription. At the time of ordering (Nov 2009), the traffic was being offered for FREE for LIFETIME.

As for the GPS itself, it has been relatively reliable, except for two occasions where the voice suddenly sounded scrambled and had to be power-cycled to correct it.

I love the Bluetooth connection to my mobile phone, as well as the other features inherent with this model such as fuel / trip costs, driving / economy challenges, etc.

The lifetime traffic feature has surprised me with accuracy as well as alternative mapping. It is giving very accurate maps, directions and alternate routes (when requested). The bluetooth pairing with my cell phone is very convenient. My only wish is that the speaker could have been a bit larger. Also they eliminated the "ding" notification option when a direction was given. I liked this in my old one because I could hear it over my stereo. Outstanding deal.

A friend of mine had a Garmin and we used it this past November to find some places to go to on a weekend trip. I thought to myself, I have to get one of these. I really like it. I have a found a few things to be a little confusing, but overall, I like to use it and sometimes use it just around town to places that I already know how to get to so that I can 'practice' with it. I used it last weekend to go to the IZX Center in Cleveland and what a difference - we knew exactly where to turn off and did not have to guess if it was the same turn off as last year. I'm glad I purchased it and know it will get a workout this summer and fall, when I tend to take more trips.
