An Okay GPS
This is an okay GPS. I like all of the features it has but am unimpressed with the maps. I tried to locate my home address and instead of being located under the town that I live in, it is located in the township I live in. If I am travelling to a place that is small and I don't know the township it will be a real pain to find the street. The maps or at least locating streets near a town are much easier to use on TomTom. Other than that, everything else is above average with this GPS.

Unfortunately I Returned This Unit
I bought the 765T with great hopes, despite user comments about the touch screen. After using it on a trip to Florida, I returned it. The touch screen is horrible, the traffic NEVER was accurate, the unit crashed at least ten times, and it was just a nuisance. This is unfortunate as the screen is clear and colorful and I liked the directions and screen layout. Garmin is the only manufacturer I have seen who provides the ability to plot routes (via MapSource) on your PC and then transfer the route, not just the start and end points, to the unit. If you use MapSource, just make sure you review your route a few times though. If you click a millionth of an inch off a highway, it thinks you want to exit the highway and go to that point. So the directions, left unchecked, would have you exit the highway, go to the point you clicked, then get back on the highway to head for your end destination. Annoying but I guess this makes sense since afterall, you did click a point off the highway. A user interface modification would be helpful to alert the user though (maybe Garmin reads this??) Bluetooth worked well, although I disabled it as using my bluetooth earpiece was far better than using the Nuvi. I have always used Garmin products and was really disappointed with this one. This unit was just too cumbersome and I found myself making excuses for keeping it.
Rating :
Great Features and Functions. Hardware needs work.
I have been using the Nuvi for approximately nine months. I don't know how I lived without it before. The software is terrific! Easy to use and understand.
The hardware needs some work however. The life of the device is short: About an hour. Significantly less than the five advertised. The touch screen is primitive and clunky compared to what iTouch and iPhone users are accustomed to. Even though it recalibrates itself periodically, it still has errors. If you touch the "a" character, for example, the device will record an s, z, or q.
The most disconcerting problem was that the device simply stopped working one morning. It would not power up.
Garmin's product support pales compared to that of industry leaders (e.g., Apple). When you register the problem on their website, they send you an email pointing you back to the FAQ diagnostics that you've already tried. A 30-45 minute wait on hold is required in order to talk to a human being on their customer support lines.
Rating :
Not quite sure yet.
The 765 seems to do the essential job ok but I will agree with others that the touch screen has some issues. I recalibrated it and that seemed to help somewhat but I still find that it erroneously selects icons which I clearly did not touch. I'd say 1 in every 20 or so touches, I'll have to take corrective action due to this flaw. It seems to take me out of my way sometimes even though I've set the navigation to not avoid anything and I've also set it to take the fastest route. For example, I absolutely know the fastest route to my work and yet this insists on taking a path which is definitely not the fastest. In fact, it is likely one of the slower routes. The rerouting works fairly well. I've gone against its directions many times and it seems to recalculate fairly readily. For the most part it navigates correctly and displays street names in a timely manner however there have been a few times where it tells me that "I'm arriving at destination" and it is way too late for me to make the turn even though I'm at or under the speed limit. The FM transmitter is ok. There are times when the static is noticeable but it's not annoying. I've had no problems with volume on the unit itself or through the car speakers. I have not tried lane assist or the traffic features yet. Bluetooth works well and was easy to set up. The battery is Lithium-Ion. Bottom line is I'm going to test it some more over the next week or so and in areas I am less familiar with.

BLUETOOTH problem
The Garmin Nuvi 765 is great, BUT I also have the HTC Hero phone, It is NOT Bluetooth compatible with the Nuvi 765. Tech support said "Sorry". So unless they figure out a firmware upgrade, I am out-of-luck. Check the Garmin Bluetooth compatibility list if this is a requirement for your purchase.

Keep your nüvi in place with this portable friction mount. It'll keep everything in plain sight when you need it and out of the way when you don't. Place the mount on any stable surface, and adjust the position of your GPS to your liking. The friction mount weighs enough to keep your device put on the dash, even when sudden maneuvers are necessary. It's ideal for states in which the use of windshield suction mounts is illegal. Customer Review :
Loved it!
We used this on vacation and it was so nice to put it on the dash. I have a Mini Van and used to put the GPS on the windshield, then to check or change the screen, you have to reach and can be dangerous. This is very convenient when changing the screen, with-in arms reach. Easy to put away and no marks on your windshield. Love it so glad I bought it, you will not regret it.

Great addition to my 265WT nuvi.
This nuvi portable mount works great and is pretty stable. The only time I had an issue was taking a curve a bit to fast. This is also easy to hide under my driver seat. Well worth it and much less expensive than the Garmin site even with a 20% discount.
Rating :
It actually works
I was a little sceptical of this when we first got it as a gift. It looked to bulky to actually be practical, so we didn't actually use it for a few months. But now after using it for almost a year, my wife and I are very satisfied with the product. We use it in two cars (Honda and Subaru) and and it has worked perfectly every time. No slipping, easy to use, and not as obtrusive as it appears. When not in use, we just stash the beanbag part under the seat or in a door pocket and put the GPS and plastic hardware in the glovebox. Thus, the tell-tale wrings from the windshield mount are gone, and potential thieves are none the wiser.
Rating :
Works Great
Grips my dash really well. It is a great alternative when you don't want to "stick" the suction cup to the windshield.

Garmin mount
Very nice mount. It does move slightly when I am driving on curvy roads, but I am a very spirited driver. I like that is easy to move from car to car.

Customer Review :
I love my new garmin 285 WT
My daughter told me about this item and how she was so pleased with it that I decided to buy one for myself. When I got this I plugged it in and could not believe how easy it was to use. I was amazed at how accurate this worked. I owned one a year ago of a different brand and it was so confusing that I ended up giving it to someone else.
My husband and I ended up having to move to NY due to his new job. It was great to have to make the trips there and back looking for a place to live. It is very helpful to find places to shop, eat, get gas and so on. My husband never wanted a GPS but after seeing this one he was so impressed with it that he also bought one for his truck.
It has helped me so much while I am living in a new area to get to know the streets and where everything is. I think this is the best investment I made. It is so easy to use and I have never had to turn around once since I have owned it. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great GPS and the price is also great. I would literally be lost without my garmin.

What a GREAT invention!!!
We loved using our Garmin 285. With this product we were able to find our way into the heart of Nashville without a problem, would never have found the address without it. It also helped us find our cabin in the mountains. The only thing we found wrong with it is that it told us a place was down the road on the left, when it was really on the right and closer to us at the time. Also if a road had two different names, it often used the one we didn't see on the road signs. But that was minor in the scope of things, we never got lost when using this product. It has multiple features that we found are easy to use. It was fun to use and we really depended on it to help monitor our speed and the time of arrival at our different destinations.

Feature Rich GPS w\Bluetooth - Highly Recommended!
The Garmin Nuvi 285WT GPS has far exceeded my expectations for an inexpensive GPS. This nice looking unit that has a lot of features usually found on more expensive devices. Here are my observations:
Pros: + Easy Setup; I didn't even need to read the "Quick Start" guide to get the unit functioning + Text-to-Speech; Clearly speaks road names + Accurate Directions; Suggested routes are good and the unit recalculates quickly if you diverge + Bluetooth Support; Can connect to a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone to act as speaker phone (this was the main reason I bought this model) + Easy to Use; Easy to understand menu options makes customizing easy + Good Predictive Text; The unit automatically presents you with a list of choices as you enter data into the destination screen + Shows Posted Speed Limits; Unit displays the current speed limits on most major roads (very helpful, indeed)
Cons: - Touch screen is not as sensitive as other devices, so it often takes a few presses to get the options selected - No manual volume control, this makes it hard to adjust the volume to compensate for road noise
Misc: * Support MSN Direct for updated travel information, but I don't plan on using this feature * Supports Photo Navigation, which allows you to add a picture on a SD card and assign an address that the GPS can use as a destination - I haven't tried it, but might sometime in the future
This feature rich GPS works very well and is great value. I was lucky enough to pick this up on an Amazon "Gold Box" special, so it was an even better deal, but would likely be happy to pay the current price if I need to buy another one (as a gift, etc).
Highly Recommended!

I bought two of these units for my daughters as birthday presents.
They love them.
The units are very easy to setup and use. So far the accuracy has been good.
The Bluetooth capability is a plus and the fact they can link their cell phones to the GPS is a nice feature.

Garmin's nüvi 260W combines the thinprofile and attractive price point of other nüvi 200-series GPS with directions in real street names and a wide screen that lets you see more of what's around you as you drive. Garmin's line on the device is that, "the nüvi 260W gives consumers the most sought-after navigation features, while eliminating many of the premium add-ons. The result is a PND that simply gets you from point A to point B – reliably, efficiently, and with style." As with all nüvis, you get Garmin reliability, the fast satellite lock of a high-sensitivity integrated receiver, a slim, pocket-sized navigator with a gorgeous display, detailed NAVTEQ maps that lets you search by name for more than 6 million points of interest like stores, restaurants or hospitals, and an easy, intuitive interface.
Wider screen lets you see more of what's around. Compare these actual size views:

The nüvi 260W comes preloaded with maps for U.S., Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, and features an ultra-slim design. | Text-To-Speech The text-to-speech feature of the nüvi 260W means that device automatically calls out street names (saying "turn right on Main Street" instead of "turn right in 200 feet."). This feature lets drivers keep their eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways. See More of What's Around The 4.3-inch backlit widescreen touchscreen on the nüvi 260W gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.
Smart, Powerful Design The nüvi 260W is built with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for extreme accuracy, as well as an SD card slot for storing your media and additional navigation tools, and a USB interface for loading data. The nüvi display is touchscreen-enabled, making it a cinch to control the device with your fingertips. Customer Review :
Great first GPS
After much research and deciding rather I really needed a GPS I bought the Nuvi 260W. I knew I wanted the wide screen and street name announce, other than that my needs were pretty basic. The 260W fits the bill. Power it up out of the box and you're ready to go. The on-screen prompts are simple to follow.
This little device makes driving to unfamiliar destinations a breeze...no more trying to follow a map or printed directions, especially at night. I also purchased the Friction-mount which makes it easy to put the GPS out of view with no suction mark on the windshield when parked in a public area.
Don't forget the one-time free map/GPS upgrade, I don't think it was well advertised in the paperwork. I learned about it reading the reviews and specifically looked for the upgrade after registering. Mine came loaded with 2007 maps so I'm sure there have been quite a few changes.

An amazing Guide!
I haven't had it very long, but I am amazed at how accurate my Garmin 260 is. I'm really looking forward to using it a lot more this summer. I don't think you could go wrong buying this Idem.

GPS Garmin
It is the best. I can't imagine getting by without it now that I am used to it. For people who have to go places where they are not familiar it helps immensely. It is much better than Mapquest because if you take a wrong turn it corrects your error. The only problem is that it once took me to an address a few blocks away, but that problem is rare I would think. It tells you how far you have to go and how long it will take. I recommend it .

Garmin GPS System
Really like this Garmin - it is easy to program and has been accurate so far. Occasionally in areas that I am familar with it will take me a different route, but then, I'm using a short cut and wouldn't expect the Garmin to do that. Overall performance is great.

Its all good. I really like it because its functional and really helps a lot. I wish there was a clock somewhere on the screen or as a screen saver for example since i don't have one in my car. But I am happy with it any ways.

Garmin 205W - OK with me!
Received the Garmin 205W a few days later than anticipated. Product performs as indicated. Being a 1st time user, a small instruction book would be a good addition. after playing with the unit a few times one can link to locations and maps without much problem. When errors or mistakes are made the operation is extremely forgiving and easily corrected.
Good product for the $$... Highly recommended be this mapping rookie....

Great product for the money
This is a great GPS, very easy to use, and works great. It doesn't have all the features of the better models such as the GPS ability to say the street names instead of just saying "turn left", but it was far cheaper than the next model up.
I would buy it again.

Questions & Answers
Question : What car should i get a 2007 Pontiac g5 or a 2003 Subaru Impreza wrx?
I am a 19 year old and I am a bit picky on cars because car insurance is high for me. I just want someone that has some experenice with those cars. Suggestion for other cars are fine too, only sport cars or coupes.
Answer:
I'm really surprised to see this question. The wrx is a terrific car. I used to own one for four years and single thing didn't go wrong with it. The insurance was fairly inexpensive on the vehicle as well. The 2002 and 2003 models are considered compact sedans by insurance. The 2004+ models are considered sport sedans, so they have slightly higher insurance. If you're comparing their performance, I can't think of one thing that the Pontiac does better. It MIGHT get better gas mileage.

Question : What car is good for converting to an electric car?
What car is good for converting to an electric car?I'm interested in a car that is lightweight, has a manual transmission, and has room for batteries. I'm trying to convert a gas car to an electric car, and I need one that is light, has manual transmission, room for batteries, etc, etc. Has anyone done that and has advice/know a good car for it? I have a limited price range, and I need a relatively cheap car for it. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Answer:
To convert a car to electric, you will find that you don't need many of the thing at the gas car did, for instance the gas tank, radiator, and motor.the electric motor is much smaller the a gas one.many people are building a battery pack to go where the gas tank was along with using the extra space in the engine compartment.this is a link to what some others have done.http://www.electroauto.com/http://www.evalbum.com/cntrl/CAFE/

Question : My car won't start, the lights and horn work, but the starter (I think) just makes a clicking sound?
I drive a 92 protege. I was giving a standard driving lesson, when, after a stall, the car wouldn't start again. The battery was not holding a full charge, so I replaced it and the posts. I now get a much louder clicking sound, but the car still won't start. I have successfully push-started the car, and checked the fuses. The car is old, but was running fine before the lesson, and gave no indication of trouble to come. Is the starter the only possibility, or does anyone know of another possible explanation?
Answer:
It could also be the alternator. Even with a new battery, the car will often not start if the alternator is bad. A new battery can hold a charge just fine, but after using up that charge it needs to be recharged by a properly functioning alternator. Otherwise, after several starts a perfectly good battery could be dead. Most auto parts stores can test the alternator while it's still in the car if you can drive it there. You could also take it out and have them test it if you cannot get the car to them. Good luck.

Question : My car got totalled in an accident, insurance company wants to buy it. How much will they pay me?
I have a 1993 Nissan NX which was in a decent condition and never gave me any problems. Recently it got rear-ended. The other party's insurance took the responsibility and asked me to get an estimate. The estimate says the repair costs are about $5000 and the mechanic thinks the insurance company will buy the car from me. What price would they pay me for the car? I am a student and wasn't planning on buying a new car. What price should I be happy with. I paid about $2800 8 months ago for the car. Would they be willing to negotiate. If yes, how do I negotiate?
Answer:
Most insurance companies use NADA to detmine the RETAIL value of your car, not Kelley Blue Book. This is because NADA is based on the actual selling prices of vehs, KBB is based on the ASKING prices of dealers for the same veh. KBB will therefore show a higher "value" for your veh. The value will take into account mileage on the veh, and the insurance company may adjust for prior dmg/condition. Most companies will give you more the veh if you have recently put in a new engine, transmission, or possible new paint job on entire veh. (You will need receipts for the same--and you will only recoup part of the cost of the refurbishments.) Also, the insurace company will take into account the salvage value of your veh--what a salvage yard would buy it for for parts--in deciding if the veh it totaled or not. They will calculate how much repairs are vs the "book" value (less salv value). You may be able to keep the veh (if you want, and depending on the laws in your state) & pay the add'l to have it repaired, but keep in mind that estimates may not include any "hidden" dmg to your veh, and the cost to repair may be higher than what's on the estimate. Also, the ins co would also reduce what they pay you by the salvage value if you keep the car, as the ins co would not be able to recoup the salvage amt by selling the car--you would be able to. The ins co will also ck to see if your veh previously had a salvage title issued on your veh--if it has, your settlement will be reduced...(and you got taken when you bought it...)You should not have a deductible taken from the settlement either if the other company is paying for the dmgs...Pls feel free to contact me personally if you would like further info...I am an auto claims adjuster for one of the top national insurance companies in the US.

Question : Should I buy a car which is categorized as a finance repossession?
Should I buy a car which is categorized as a finance repossession?I checked this preowned car, and AA said there is an existing finance agreement against the car, which is a hire purchase.I told the dealer, and he said this is a finance repossession. He said the finance company has cleared the car.Obviously I will speak directly to the finance company. But do you think it is advisable to buy this type of car? It is a Nissan Almera, so quality-speaking, it should be good.
Answer:
If there is an existing finance on the car, the dealer should not be selling it. The finance should have been cleared up by the repo and the car should have a clean title now. There's nothing wrong with buying a repo. It's like any other used car. Some uninformed people might advise against it because they think such cars have been abused by the owners, knowing that they are going to lose the car. This is rarely true. The repo usually comes on quickly, in a matter of a couple of months, so there is little time to abuse the car. It wouldn't be smart anyway, because the car would sell for less at auction, and they would owe a larger balance on their loan after the repo.

Question : How car rental companies move their cars from one location to another?
I am working on an application and need to understand how car rental companies move their cars from one location to another when there are too many cars left by customers at one location. One way is to give dirt cheap one way rental offers to customers originating some specific location. However, I am trying to understand do they use auto transport companies to do this for them? If yes how much business auto transporters get one average from such scenarios? Also, do car rental companies have some sort of contracts with auto transporters saying they will move rental cars always or on demand basis? Thanks for your time!

Question : What would cause a car to act strangely after leaving a car wash?
My girlfriend has a 2002 Hyundai Accent with about 130,000 miles. We took it to a car wash. After leaving the car wash, the check engine light started flashing and the engine shook. After about 15 minutes the shaking stopped and the car drove normally again. This happened about 3 weeks ago and there have been no issues since then. What would cause her car to do this?
Answer:
Ugh wetness on the ignition system.

Question : Trying to sell my car in Illinois but my car is registered in New York?
I just moved from New York state to Illinois two months ago. However, my company plans me to move me to the office in California.I'm trying to sell my car in Illinois before I move to California and planning to buy a new or used car over there.I don't plan on changing my title, insurance, registration from NY to Illinois since I'm changing my car and live in California. How can I sell an out-of-state registered car?
Answer:
You shouldn't have any problem selling it with a NY title. The person who is buying your car should just be able to take the NY title to the DMV to transfer ownership. It might just take a little longer for the paperwork to be done. You may want to check with the DMV in Illinois just to be sure, as motor vehicle laws do vary from state to state.
