Get the extended warranty!! Bought and returned two lemon units...
I bought one of these units after my previous Nuvi developed a problem whereby the power kept shutting off. Alas, the warranty period had expired. The next time around, I bought the extended warranty offered by the store.
I'm glad I did, because the audio voice immediately began stuttering. "Doctor Martin Luther King Drive" became "da-ma-er-ing...... (long pause) Drive". So I returned it to the store and got another unit in the same model, and then left on an extended vacation. The voice again stuttered, even when we disconnected the power cable. So, back to the store I went to return it.
It's possible that these two units were shipped to the store at the same time and suffered some secret catastrophe together, so that I got two successive lemons. The store clerk agreed that they must have been dropped. The manual in the second box was for the "205W", which also raised my suspicions about what it had gone through prior to my purchase!
As far as the use of the unit itself, I find the "traffic" and MPH features to be quite cool, although the unit thinks five cars in a line is "traffic ahead". In choosing a route, it does not always perform flawlessly, so it's still a good idea to have a map and at least *some* idea of where you are going, and upgrade your maps at least annually.
In comparison to my first model, as others have noted, the streets that are not on your immediate route are not always named, which I find annoying because I'm used to having more detail and knowing which street is next.
This model seemed to take an exceptionally long time to find satellites, compared to my inaugural unit. It's not a bad unit for the price, but... get the extended warranty if you can!!

My first GPS
As it says, this is my first sojourn into the GPS world, so I don't have anything for comparison. I am overall very pleased with the Garmin, and find t fairly easy to use. I have two wishes for a GPS that has nothing to do with the good productivity of this product. I wish that there was an option to save more than just my one home address, so that I could use several different starting or ending points without having to re-enter the address each time. The other thing which I am certain is standard among all GPS is when you turn the unit on, you have to scan through the "agreement" screens each time before loading the maps. Overall, I would buy this item again or recommend it to anyone!

Best Product I have ever pruchased!!!
I absolutely love this machine. I purchased this for a trip with my dad going to places I had never been before and we easily found every hotel and/or place we wanted to see or go to. I have also used my nuvi around my town (Metro Atlanta) and have found new ways to get places that I didn't know about before. I have lived in this area for 18 years. We also used this last weekend to go to southeast Georgia and we were averted away from backed up traffic twice. The second time my husband wasn't going to listen to "Constance" (my nuvi) but received a reprieve when we ended up in the soup and were just able to get off and away from the trouble. My husband said he would never doubt Constance again. Plus I can easily answer my phone hands free without having to scramble and look for it while driving. "THIS IS GREAT!!!!!"

GREAT SYSTEM
This is a great unit. The only drawback to the whole experience is that it took about six hours to do the one free map download. Other than that it is wonderful. This is our first GPS and we will absolutely get a Garmin again. Everything is so user friendly. We love it !!!!

Questionable ethics on the part of Garmin
Beware. When I purchased the 255WT, it did not come with a USB-to-USBmini cord, so I tried one that I got with a USB external disk drive. Neither my Mac nor my friend's PC would recognized the unit, so I couldn't register it. I sought assistance from the techs at a nearby Best Buy, and they discovered that it was the USB connection, whereupon they wanted to sell me a $20 USB cable; they also told me that most camera and disk drive USB cables would not work properly. If you buy one of these, be prepared to purchase a special cable with which to connect it, otherwise you might not be able to register it, which is required in order to get your firmware and maps updated. You won't get all you pay for unless you buy more stuff. That seems a bit unethical to me.

Janky GPS, no Traffic as Advertised,
I'm in the market for a new GPS to replace my old Navigon 2200 GPS. Tried several models and purchased this one during one of Amazon's many GPS sales. I found this GPS a bit annoying to use. First I purchased the WT model which claims to include the Traffic, but it actually doesn't. It uses MSN Direct as it's traffic monitor but it never explains how to actually activate it, even though it constantly prompts you to everytime the unit starts up. I'm assuming I have to do it by plugging the unit into my PC. But the free MSN traffic only lasts 6 months, after that you have to pay.
I tried out the free trial of the Safety Camera subscription. This doesn't seem to work well at all, it was very random on the safety notices - when I looked around I didn't see a single Safety camera. I drove around the beltway for a few days then on the fourth day all of a sudden there's a safety camera warning every mile on the beltway. There are no Safety cameras on the Beltway, so where it was pulling this data from, I don't know.
It has a really good POI database, I used it to find eating places around my new office location and it worked flawlessly.
This unit fails at it's most basic function which is giving directions. It's excellent once it catches on and calculates, but a lot of times when you are leaving an Office Building, or Shopping Parking lot, it refuses to navigate it's way out of such areas. All it'll say is Go to X Street, or X Highway with no directions on how to actually get to X Highway. It doesn't tell you which way to turn or anything, sometimes the road you need to be on after leaving a Parking lot is 2 or 3 blocks away. It was annoying beyond belief. Some days the Voice Direction worked, others, it didn't. Sometimes the refresh is a few seconds slow and the directions will lag by a few seconds - so if you have to make a sudden turn this may cause an issue.
I like the favorites function, but I don't like clicking 3 times just to get to it.
The positives of the unit are, it has a pretty interface with big colorful icons, the POI db is really good, very accurate once it actually starts navigating, the fonts are all nice and big. I also really liked the holder, it felt solid and gave enough room where you can bend it in just about any direction. Unlike Tom Tom's which was so rigid it broke the minute I tried to move it.
I also hate feeling nickel and dimed, when you plug the GPS into your computer and go to the Garmin store, there are a bunch of really cool optional features for this unit but everything costs $80 or more. So if I wanted things like traffic, speed cameras, special maps, etc... It'd cost me another $200 or $300. Not cool.
I ended up returning the unit. The GPS hunt goes on...

Multi-Destination Routing
Wider screen lets you see more of what's around. Compare these actual size views of a 3-inch (diagonal) screen

and a 4.3-inch diagonal widescreen

|
This lets you enter several spots into the device (day care - supermarket-cleaners - office - day care, for example) and it will plot the fastest route. And once you've found the best router, the "Route Planning" feature lets you save up to 10 different routes, Garmin touts the feature for providing, "the most efficient route for errands, deliveries and sales calls." The feature also makes this an instant essential accessory for anyone who shops garage sales (you know what we're talking about).
A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been on the map.
Where Am I? Where's My Car? The nüvi 700 series is the first to answer two common questions: "Where am I?" and "Where’s my car?"
At any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or vast parking lot, the nüvis in the 700 series automatically mark the position in which they were last removed from the mount. See Better, See More The super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views.
The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.
First Rate Map Data The nüvi 780 is preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping.
Hands-Free Calling In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. The nüvi 780's Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker lets match it to any bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log.
Garmin Lock Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location
Easy To Use Interface Garmin's interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip. Beyond Navigation
Browse your stored pictures with an easy-to-use JPEG viewer. | A handy MP3 player lets you play songs stored on SD memory cards. | nüvi accepts custom points of interest (POIs). View larger. |
Navigation is just the beginning. nüvi 780 features travel tools including JPEG picture viewer, MP3 player, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more. It also comes with Garmin Lock, an anti-theft feature, and configurable vehicle icons that let you select car-shaped graphics to show your location on the map.
This device is compatible with optional content plug-ins available via SD card, such as the Garmin Travel Guides and Garmin SaversGuide provide detailed data for attractions and information on nearby merchants offering discounts, so you can customize nüvi for your travel needs.
Garmin has also added the ability for customers to add custom points of interest (POI’s) from third parties such as school zones and safety cameras. Trick Your GPS Ride
Custom vehicle icons let you ride in style, at least inside your GPS. See more icon option | Like all nüvis, the 780 supports configurable vehicle icons. These fun, customized car-shaped icons come in a variety of colors to add a personal touch to your vehicle's position on the map. With this GPS system on board you'll be prepared to steer clear of traffic with the integrated FM TMC traffic receiver. I have used other GPS tracking systems, but this is the first one I have purchased. I chose the Garmin nuvi 780 purchased through Amazon because of the Bluetooth, MSN direct, and cost factor. With my current limited use I have found that this GPS meets my needs for ease of access, accurate description of street addresses, and wide viewing screen. It describes upcoming turns and exits well in advance of getting to them and repeats the information, should you become distracted. I would recommend this GPS for the novice to slightly advanced dirver.

Garmin let me down
This is the second Garmin I've purchased in the last few years. My first was stolen from my rig. Satisfied with the product, I ordered the nuvi 780. The GPS device works fine. The problem is with MSN Direct service. It is only good until January 2012. So garmin & Amazon is selling a product that is outdated at the time it is purchased without informing the buyer. I e-mailed Garmin about the problem. Their response was that it was Amazon's responsibility, not theirs to inform buyers of the condition of sale. They said that I should have went to Garmin web site before purchase.

It's good...but...
THE BAD: The FM transmitter is horrible. I don't care if it is FCC regulations or not, it simply does not work well. People also tell me I sound horrible via bluetooth when I connect it to my phone.
THE GOOD: Solid GPS will get you where you want to go.
THE OTHER: There is no reason to pass over a cheaper Garmin Nuvi for this. WOW could it be a great product if it were done right! Sadly, overall, it is just a good Garmin Nuvi GPS in essence.

Bluetooth Incompatibility
I like the features of this unit as far as the routing to multiple points. My biggest disappointment is with the bluetooth. Why not make it clear that only certain phones are compatible? I bought this unit for my wife and her phone would not link up to the unit. So, I look on the Garmin website and, sure enough, her phone is not supported ... why? I was able to get her a separate hands-free bluetooth kit for another $30 but I was under the impression that bluetooth devices would all be compatible with each other. Lesson learned, I guess, but it would be nice to have a link to supported devices right from the page concerning this unit.

Nice Features, Easy to use, Hard to update maps, No MSN coverage
I bought this for my wife, who is Russian. She was very impressed that there is a Russian voice and text built in (among dozens of other languages). The system is very easy to use and the graphics are great. It has just about any POI that you could possibly want. Routes and directions are very clear, but you have to make sure you set your route preferences (as with any GPS), or you'll be driving down winding farm roads in the name of "shortest route". When you get the system, you can do a one time free map update download, which just wasn't working. By reading some blogs, I found out that it won't work with Internet Explorer (most of the time), so I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and was finally able to download the map update (took about 2 hours). I had to restart my laptop to get the update to run, but it seems to have installed correctly. I don't know if it made a difference, but I plugged in a 4GB SD card before installing the update; I read about people having problems with running out of memory in the middle of an update. It took a couple of tries to get our cell phones to find the bluetooth, but after the initial setup, they find each other quite well. I tried to activate the MSN Direct 3 month Free trial, but was told that there is no coverage in my area (Killeen, Texas). Fortunately, we are moving to San Antonio, which has coverage. Doesn't matter much; MSN Direct is going away in 2012, so I guess I'll get an FM traffic update reciever. We're happy with it overall; no real problems so far.

An Excellent Device In the Hands of a Knowledgeable User
I purchased the 755T after considerable research including Amazon users' mixed reviews. I'm finding it an outstanding value. My experience with this device has been excellent. Rather than share its many virtues - covered elsewhere - let me share my observations on three weaknesses observed by other reviewers.
First, the accompanying documentation is limited to a Quick Start Guide. I encourage you to download the 76-page user manual from the Garmin website and read it cover-to-cover. Doing so should alleviate many pitfalls experienced by others. Second, map updates are - as many have noted - a slow (several hours) download. Certainly tedious if you hover over your PC. Two suggestions. Read and follow the directions exactly. (Get impatient, try a shortcut, and you're likely to have problems.) Next, as I did, simply activate the download program before going to bed and the software will be ready to install and run in the morning. Again, read and follow directions and it should go without a hitch. I had no problems. (IMPORTANT - deactivate your energy-saving power settings on your PC (Control Panel > Display > Screen Saver/Power) so your hard drive does not hibernate or shut off during the download.) Finally, several reviews note poor navigation (e.g., taking the long way around). In my experience no GPS device - the 755T or any other - is a substitute for common sense. Case in point - last night my wife and I drove to a restaurant accessible via a one-way access road. Leaving the restaurant, the Nuvi wanted to take us West, down the access road to the next highway cross-over where we could U-turn - a diversion of 2 miles. Unlike me, the Nuvi did not understand a shortcut through the parking lot back to an intersecting road that allowed us to reverse our original route to the restaurant. Once there, however, the 755T quickly recalculated and had us on the original path.
GPS is a tool. You need to know how to use it and how to blend it with your own observation and common sense. Do this and I'd be shocked if you don't find the 775T a very capable, dependable travel aid. Last word: the Garmin friction mount is superb - holds its position on the dash while driving; is transferrable to a second vehicle; and can be removed for storage to help avoid theft. Much preferred to a windshield/suction mount.

Slow response time & wacky touch screens
I chose this product because I was told by my sister about the greatness of its features. Additionally, her review was backed up by most of Amazon's reviewers. Upon receiving the product, I was disappointed to find there was no or little direction on how to use it. Not that I'm computer illiterate but this was my first Garmin. So, a little direction would've been greatly appreciated.
Furthermore, the touch screen was wacky. There were 2 icons available on one of the screens and I was clicking on the icon "Where to" and received the "View Map" screen instead (which is the other icon). I tried to click "Back" and received the "Settings" instead (which is another different icon). I kept hitting "Back" and "Back", and, suddenly, the screen took me to things like trip calculator and statistics, etc. I had problems inputting street #'s and names accurately because I had to keep hitting erase (which often leads me to a different character). Sometimes I would click a letter and some other letter that is not in close proximity of that letter would pop-up. During the first few incidents I thought I was imagining things until the incident with the icons.
Next problem is the slow direction. I tested the product going to and from home. I am familiar with the traffic routes and not once it gave me warning that there will be traffic ahead; it didn't give me alternate routes to avoid traffic; and the direction was sllllooooowwww! It will tell me where to exit either while I had just past it or about to pass it. Okay... that's lame, I thought.
All in all - I had to return the item after 2x of use. I was mostly frustrated with the touch screen. Coupled with the slow direction, I wouldn't recommend this item for my senior citizen parents! After experiencing such difficulties, I found 765 nuvi @ Costco and almost all of the reviewers were having the same problems. I feel so validated! Especially after reading all of the great reviews by Amazoners... I thought I was the only one having these problems. (sanity restored!) :)

Garmin Nuvi 755T rocks!!!
I reviewed a number of models online, and researched Consumer Reports for a few months before actually purchasing this unit. The Garmin Nuvi 755T is outstanding, and surpassed my expectations right out of the box! It is incredibly easy to use, no manual needed -- extremely user-friendly machine, even for a novice GPS person. Saving and locating new routes, locations was very intuitive, and required little or no effort. On-screen prompts are helpful. Highly recommend this unit to any first-time GPS user looking for a moderately priced starter machine.

Nice Unit, Easy to Use, Quality a bit suspect
Purchased this unit for my wife, she had a GPS that was several years old and figured this would be a nice upgrade. Item is great, the lane assist is a very helpful, probably my wifes favorite feature. The route it selects is very logical (the older unit would suggest odd routes).
The only downside, Item was purchased as a christmas gift, here we are 2 months later and the unit stopped working. The display no longer funtions. When I called Garmin, I was told the wait time on the phone was 60 to 90 minutes. I went to get an RMA on the net, that will take 2 to 3 days, then I need to ship it back at my expense so they can repair or replace. (I've read that they usually send back a refurished one)
So the unit is nice, the quality not that best and the customer service and Garmin not all that great.

I love the product. It was a great purchase.
This is my first GPS navigator. It's very user friendly and works flawlessly. The best part is the price at Amazon.com, can't beat it. It was a great buy and am enjoying the product.

Very bad quality, traffic not working in Washington D.C. area
I bought it for the traffic feature. It is simply not work in Washington D.C. Metro area.
It gives wrong traffic information on the road. When it is showed heavy traffic (in red color) on route 267, I turned on the road and found no traffic at all. It is the opposite direction bumper-to-bumper.
Its detour feature also too bad. It directed me to a single lane, 35mph road as detour to highway, and it is totally jammed. I spent at least half hour more than not taking detour. I guess the small road would not have traffic information and the algorithm always assume no traffic when information not available.
Traffic feature is failed by design.
I would not return it if it still work as a basic GPS without traffic. Right after I bought the GPS, I downloaded the latest map. But it failed in this aspect miserably.
1. Give wrong direction I went to the post office Herndon, Virgina. It told me to turn right when post office is on the left side. Fortunately, no big building on the right and post office is so obvious on the left, so I didn't lost. The post office had built at least three years.
2. Shutdown automatically During my first five trips around Washington D.C. and Virginia, the device shutdown automatically three times in the middle of driving. It shutdown two more time in my following trip. I could not figure out why. And it could not come back at all. I need to wait at least five minutes or more to power it on. How miserable feeling when you need to know where to turn. I do noticed it always shutdown itself for long street name when I have speak-out street feature on. The words sound blurred and then shutdown. This could be caught by thorough testing. Another time is I know the route and want to test this GPS. When I didn't follow its direction several times, it shutdown itself. My friend told me GPS had attitude when I didn't follow its guidance.
This is my first Garmin and I am so surprised by its bad quality.

Decent, but Garmin is getting cheap
I've owned a Nuvi 200 and a Nuvi 205. The 205 was working great but I got this one because I needed the bluetooth feature. I can tell you that both units, especially the 200, were built with significantly better materials. Garmin is getting cheap. The 200 had a loud, non-distorted speaker that announced the next turn without crackling or missing words. There were no mistakes that I ever encountered with the 200 in 2 years.
The Nuvi 1260t is made with a much cheaper, tinny speaker. Garmin says they have to make it that way due to how small the 1260 is. Nonsense- the 200 is only slightly bigger and is 3 year old technology. The case on the 1260 is cheap plastic and the screen does not pick up your touch until you touch it a few times. Also, the 1260 freezes occasionally. The bluetooth feature is borderline useless unless maybe you drive in a super quiet S-class. I drive a Toyota and most people can't hear me, and all I hear is distortion. It works in a pinch, but much better if you pull over. Unfortunately, Garmin is cheaping out and it shows.
The good side: small, lightweight, if you don't use the traffic receiver you don't get advertisements on the screen, all new roads are there, and it gets a good signal in any weather.
The solution: consider an older Garmin with bluetooth, and update the maps. Maybe a 765t would be better. I would have paid a little more for a better speaker.

small screen caveat
Overall it is very nice device. I like the small size, and traffic status features. I would like to point out couple of things any buyer should be aware of before purchasing this device:
* Bluetooth handsfree feature is of limited use. It not problem of this particular device, just having such small speaker and microphone so far from your face makes it difficult to use due to car noise.
* On small screen devices they only offer ABCDEF keyboard not QWERTY. If you used to QWERTY it is major pain to type on it.
Besides that it is nice little device, very useful I recommend it as inexpensive GPS solution.

GPS takes me everywhere!
The Garmin nuvi 1260T is a marvelous piece of equipment. Very easy to use, very easy to read. It has the perfect size to glance from time to time as you drive and you can even take it with for some city expeditioning, if that is your fancy. A great investment that will not let you down. I definitely recommend it.

Great but has a few glitches
Pros: Good product. Works as advertsed. Simple. Functional. Gets you where you need to go. Small size is very convenient for people like me who travel and take our garmin with them. Cons: crashed once. routes aren't always the most direct especially in urban areas. Sometimes doesn't give enough warning before turns for being in the correct lane. HATE the hover ads.

Question : What car is good for converting to an electric car?
What car is good for converting to an electric car?I'm interested in a car that is lightweight, has a manual transmission, and has room for batteries. I'm trying to convert a gas car to an electric car, and I need one that is light, has manual transmission, room for batteries, etc, etc. Has anyone done that and has advice/know a good car for it? I have a limited price range, and I need a relatively cheap car for it. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Answer:
To convert a car to electric, you will find that you don't need many of the thing at the gas car did, for instance the gas tank, radiator, and motor.the electric motor is much smaller the a gas one.many people are building a battery pack to go where the gas tank was along with using the extra space in the engine compartment.this is a link to what some others have done.http://www.electroauto.com/http://www.evalbum.com/cntrl/CAFE/

Question : How many ways can a car generate its own electricity as it travels?
lets say a car is traveling from New Youk to Los Angeles.YOu are assigned to design this car so that it makes it to Los Angeles. YOu are only allowed 10 gallon tank of gas to start and thats the only gas you are allowed to have for the entire trip.Your car design must be for an electric car that will therefore be able to generate power while it travels from solar energy, using the wind, plus any other innovative ideas you can come up with.Could this car be designed. HOw many different power sources can you imagine creating as the car travels?
Answer:
Solar power, wind power, and i'm no expert but just the wheels turning could generate power...right?

Question : My car got totalled in an accident, insurance company wants to buy it. How much will they pay me?
I have a 1993 Nissan NX which was in a decent condition and never gave me any problems. Recently it got rear-ended. The other party's insurance took the responsibility and asked me to get an estimate. The estimate says the repair costs are about $5000 and the mechanic thinks the insurance company will buy the car from me. What price would they pay me for the car? I am a student and wasn't planning on buying a new car. What price should I be happy with. I paid about $2800 8 months ago for the car. Would they be willing to negotiate. If yes, how do I negotiate?
Answer:
Most insurance companies use NADA to detmine the RETAIL value of your car, not Kelley Blue Book. This is because NADA is based on the actual selling prices of vehs, KBB is based on the ASKING prices of dealers for the same veh. KBB will therefore show a higher "value" for your veh. The value will take into account mileage on the veh, and the insurance company may adjust for prior dmg/condition. Most companies will give you more the veh if you have recently put in a new engine, transmission, or possible new paint job on entire veh. (You will need receipts for the same--and you will only recoup part of the cost of the refurbishments.) Also, the insurace company will take into account the salvage value of your veh--what a salvage yard would buy it for for parts--in deciding if the veh it totaled or not. They will calculate how much repairs are vs the "book" value (less salv value). You may be able to keep the veh (if you want, and depending on the laws in your state) & pay the add'l to have it repaired, but keep in mind that estimates may not include any "hidden" dmg to your veh, and the cost to repair may be higher than what's on the estimate. Also, the ins co would also reduce what they pay you by the salvage value if you keep the car, as the ins co would not be able to recoup the salvage amt by selling the car--you would be able to. The ins co will also ck to see if your veh previously had a salvage title issued on your veh--if it has, your settlement will be reduced...(and you got taken when you bought it...)You should not have a deductible taken from the settlement either if the other company is paying for the dmgs...Pls feel free to contact me personally if you would like further info...I am an auto claims adjuster for one of the top national insurance companies in the US.

Question : My car won't start, the lights and horn work, but the starter (I think) just makes a clicking sound?
I drive a 92 protege. I was giving a standard driving lesson, when, after a stall, the car wouldn't start again. The battery was not holding a full charge, so I replaced it and the posts. I now get a much louder clicking sound, but the car still won't start. I have successfully push-started the car, and checked the fuses. The car is old, but was running fine before the lesson, and gave no indication of trouble to come. Is the starter the only possibility, or does anyone know of another possible explanation?
Answer:
It could also be the alternator. Even with a new battery, the car will often not start if the alternator is bad. A new battery can hold a charge just fine, but after using up that charge it needs to be recharged by a properly functioning alternator. Otherwise, after several starts a perfectly good battery could be dead. Most auto parts stores can test the alternator while it's still in the car if you can drive it there. You could also take it out and have them test it if you cannot get the car to them. Good luck.

Question : Can i jump start car by taking off someone elses battery?
Here is the problem. In about few days I should be receiving my car that has bad battery. The thing is that it will be coming on a big truck that usually has 3-4 cars on the bottom and about same on top. When truck gets here I need to be able to start battery to get car down to the ground. This is the reason I cannot simply jump start from another car.So I was wondering I can take battery off my friend's car and use it to jump start it that way? After I do that, will it work on his car?
Answer:
yes

Question : What car should i get a 2007 Pontiac g5 or a 2003 Subaru Impreza wrx?
I am a 19 year old and I am a bit picky on cars because car insurance is high for me. I just want someone that has some experenice with those cars. Suggestion for other cars are fine too, only sport cars or coupes.
Answer:
I'm really surprised to see this question. The wrx is a terrific car. I used to own one for four years and single thing didn't go wrong with it. The insurance was fairly inexpensive on the vehicle as well. The 2002 and 2003 models are considered compact sedans by insurance. The 2004+ models are considered sport sedans, so they have slightly higher insurance. If you're comparing their performance, I can't think of one thing that the Pontiac does better. It MIGHT get better gas mileage.

Question : What car company has a good reputation for having parts for old autos made by them?
I heard it's good to have a car from a good car company that after time will still have parts for your old car. Does anyone know which car company is the best in this standard? I think local mechanics would know best. I plan on getting a car and stick with it for a long time.Thank you in advance for your help
Answer:
any american car has parts for at least 10 yrs. and then if the car is popular the aftermarket builds parts for it, you can build a complete19 66 or 67 chevy chevelle from the ground up if you have the frame as the aftermarket makes all the parts you need.

Question : What would cause a car to act strangely after leaving a car wash?
My girlfriend has a 2002 Hyundai Accent with about 130,000 miles. We took it to a car wash. After leaving the car wash, the check engine light started flashing and the engine shook. After about 15 minutes the shaking stopped and the car drove normally again. This happened about 3 weeks ago and there have been no issues since then. What would cause her car to do this?
Answer:
Ugh wetness on the ignition system.

Question : What happens when a stolen car is purchased?
I recently had my car stolen. It's a very hard thing to deal with especially since it's a very expensive car. It was a Mercedes Benz S550 and I had spent a little over $95 thousand on it. I live in Los Angeles and the LAPD have told me that there are so many car thefts that it's almost impossible to find stolen cars. Insurance covers the cars cost but what's important to me is that inside the car I had some family pictures and some of mother and fathers personal belongings that I'd like returned... Is there any chance the thief is stupid enough to try and sell the car?
Answer:
With a high-end car like that, one of two things have most likely happened:1. Sold to a chop shop and is now in pieces.2. Exported to South America, Asia, or Eastern Europe where its lack of a title certificate is of no local concern.Cars like that aren't stolen by joy-riders unless the keys were left in it as it takes a professional thief to get past the anti-theft system.Any personal items in it were chucked in the dumpster.Sorry, but those are the cold, hard realities.
