Deltran Battery Tender Plus fills the bill

I have a garaged car that only gets driven a couple of times of month at a weekend home. After about the 5th time of jump-starting a dead battery, a friendly neighbor/garage enthusiast informed me about "battery tenders." After reading the reviews here, I pulled the trigger on the Deltran Tender Plus, and am very happy. I hooked up the ring terminal harness in about 2 minutes and started the charge at around 8PM. Red light stayed on overnight, and by morning the green light was flashing and the red light was off, indicating an 80% charge. Getting to the steady green light with red light off(full charge and trickle maintenance) took another 6 hours or so.

Using this could not be easier, and it is tailor made for someone like me: garaged car over winter with sporadic use and night time temperatures in the 20s and 30s. My only quibble is that the ring terminal harness cord could be about 2 feet longer (it's only 1.5 feet) to allow the charge cord to be snaked through the car's front grill and capped when not in use. I did not use the included alligator clamp harness and will keep it as a backup. Because I have a power outlet in the front of my garage bay, I needed no other extensions on the power cord, or on the charging cord. I would guess that the fully extended outlet cord plus the DC charging cord, plus the DC ring terminal harness, extends about 12 feet total, so that should give you an idea of whether you will need any extensions (either power cord or DC cord) to reach your battery. I briefly considered buying the separate cigarette lighter adapter to charge, but because the lighter on my car is not "hot" when the car is off, it could not work.

For all of the technical reasons previously reviewed, I feel confident that the battery tender will now maintain a float on my lightly used car battery and there will be no more jumper cables in my future!

Does the job!

Easy to use, easy to set up. The little green light indicates it's happy, too.
There's no way to know, of course, whether it made a difference since the alternative was to disconnect my '96 BMW M3's battery.
Don't bother with the cover. As noted elsewhere, the package it comes in is suitable for storage.

Just Bought My Second One

I bought my first Battery Tender for a BMW M3 that I drive infrequently because of travel. The car uses a lot of power even when turned off and idle. After having to replace a dead battery my dealer suggested that I purchase a charger to keep my battery in good shape. I believe BMW sells this unit under their logo, but I bought it from Amazon for much less $$$.

Problem solved! Even after a one month long business trip my car started immediately. Seeing that green light on the Battery Tender gives me peace of mind that my car will start when I need it and my battery will stay in good shape.

When my wife's Honda S2000 would not start after sitting in the garage for a few months, I thought I would try my Battery Tender before calling AAA. After an overnight charge the car started right up. After an additional 24 hours the green light was constant telling me the battery charger was in maintenance mode. My wife asked me to buy one for her.

One Note: find out if your car can charge via the cigarette lighter. This seems to be the most convenient method. BMW 3 series prior to 2007 can charge this way but newer models cannot. The Honda 2004 S2000 cannot charge via the auxilliary socket between the seats, so I installed the terminal set directly to the battery.

This device works, is solidly built, and is a good investment.

Must have if you own a classic car

All I can say is that it works great and I love the adapter that allows you to charge your battery without opening the hood each time. I use this on my 67 Caddy which I don't get to drive at all 6 months out of the year.

Stays Put

I really like this. When I first opened the package I was really skeptical that this would stay put. But so far it's doen really well. I am just a little concerned about what may happen to it if I leave it in my car this summer. I hope it doesn't melt.

Rating :

Does the job

Although, like most accessories, it seems overpriced, the dashboard mounts performs as advertised - it conforms to most dash surfaces and it doesn't move when you stop or turn corners. It is convenient to be able to tuck it under the car seat when not in use, thus removing all signs that there's a GPS in the car.

the jourey is still out

at this time I have only had this dash pad for a few weeks, as for functionality is has performed great, no slips or slides and I like the compact design it doesn't look hideous sitting on the dash. My only concern is how it holds up once the summer sun comes calling, the silicone base pad? does it get glued to my dash or break down and leave behind a stain? we will find out as I like the thing enough to run the risk

Awesome GPS!

When I was researching for a gps, I was looking at several brands. I liked the shape of the Tom Tom units, how it's arched on top. Then seeing the size of this XXL, I had to have this! I've borrowed gps's before and they were so small. It's so easy to use, it's very fast at creating routes. The ALG is a great feature. It really helps. You can customize the welcome screen to anything you want. I changed mine to a Chrysler emblem to match my car. You can make it yours in many ways, changing map colors, car symbols, adding voices. Tom Tom also has some extra services that you can add, such as Fuel Prices and Safety Cams. To me, this is one of the best, if not the best unit on the market.

Very Satisfied

This GPS is very easy to view the streets and the sound is very loud, I had to lower the volume. The only thing I didn't like was it did not turn on and off when you turned on the car, like Garmin does. Other than that I think it is a great GPS and the maps are up to date.

Unit defective and very poor tech support - returned it for different vendor

I bought the item to replace my older Garmin and because my wife and I are going to NZ in a few weeks. The item arrived and worked out of the box. I went to and from work yesterday and it was actually a nice screen, good graphics, and in general a good price / product ratio. When I got home I decided to update the maps (one free 30 day update after purchase), purchase the yearly map update package, and buy the NZ maps. That is when the horrors began. The updates failed and my unit would not work after that. I called customer support and was on hold for 20 mins or so. After starting a conversation with them, I got disconnected and had to wait on hold again with my call back (another 15 mins or so). When I got thru this time I asked if we got disconnected could they call me back - they said no. Must wait on hold again.
The guy was polite, though, and tried to walk me thru a fix. He said I had to reformat my disk and re-download the packages. This took time so he said he could not wait on the line while I did it, but it would work for sure, and if it did not, call back.
I wrote down the steps he gave me and hung up. Did the reformat and tried to reload the maps - 1 hour process - unit crashed again.
I called back, spent 20+ mins on hold, got thru, and got walked thru another set of instructions. Bottom line, over the course of the eight hour day I had four calls to tech support, lots of time on hold, shuttled up to higher tech support people, supervisors, and in the end the unit still does not work. Something bad inside, so they said I could mail it to them and they would replace it.
I leave for NZ in two weeks, they said the process would take at least that long to get me a new unit - maybe a little longer. I asked them, look, since I have been on hold so long and am a potential customer switching from Garmin to Tom Tom, can you just mail me a new unit, I'll even pay now if you load up the NZ maps, and when I get the unit in a week or so (UPS ground), I will send you back this unit in the same box. They laughed and said no way. They suggested I return the unit via Amazon return and get an exchange thru them. I told them if I had to do that, I would switch back to Garmin. They said, in effect, well, we are sorry you feel that way but we can't help.
So the upshot of my eval is the unit was pretty good but, in my opinion, the customer service was ... well, not good.

not good

Pretty good GPS

The only thing I dislike about the GPS is that when you press a letter/number/selection, you have to press it 3 or more times before it registers what you touched.

Far too bulky for 4.3" Garmin devices.

I bought it for 4.3" display Garmin 255WT. This is far bulkier than other hard cases for the devices. Useful if you plan on carrying the car adapter cord, or a cellphone with the device, otherwise it very over-sized for the device.

Rating :

GPS will fit, but not snugly!

I was disappointed with the size of the case. Although the material is indeed very sturdy, the inner dimensions are too large for the 4.3-inch flat screen GPS to fit snugly. Because of the hard surface, and the fact that the unit moves around so much while inside, I would NOT recommend this particular product for carrying said GPS. I bought a Garmin Nuvi 755T, and although it fits, I am not happy with the way it fits. I will probably end up using this for a different item, and purchasing another case for my Nuvi.

The Best Protection & Can Attach To Your Belt

I am totally sold on this case for my Nuvi large screen (4.3). It has a loop with a lock-catch that can be used to loop through your belt or belt loop on pants (or a woman can loop and lock around a purse handle etc.). It provides excellent protection inside and out. The inside has a soft material and protects against scratching and the sides, top and bottom are sturdy-durable and prevent your GPS from being damaged, even if it was dropped. I looked at the softer leather ones but in case one of mine was knocked or dropped they just won't prevent damage well. This one will, I have no doubts. Also has enough storage room for a power cord or window or dash suction cup. It's the perfect size and material for what I need when traveling.

GREAT PRODUCT

This is a great product. This was the first time really using the Tom Tom GPS, and not wanting to stick it to the windshild bought this product. It worked great, the mount was heavy enough so that the GPS didn't tip, and when the day was over I just picked up the whole thing and carried it into the hotel room. It was wonderful. The only thing that happened was when we had a lot of heat from the sun come into the car, the GPS lost it's suction and fell off, but I just put it back on and it worked again. I would recomend this product, it really worked great.

Rating :

Awful! Waste of money

THe reason I purchased this was because the TomTom falls off the dashboard all the time, no matter how hard I stick it on. It sticks even worse on this! It doesn't stick at all to the glossy surface of this contraption. We aren't using it. Sure is sturdy, but useless.

Rating :

Works OK, better than dash stick disk

The Tom Tom Dashboard Mount works OK. I just used it on a trip from NY to Fla. A good windshield mount would be better but as long as you have ample flat space on your dashboard this should be sufficient. I had no problem with keeping the unit mounting pad attached to the mount. The only real negative is that if you stop quickly or are in an accident the mount can come flying at the passengers. They do provide a small disk that sticks to the dash and gets attached to the mount and supposedly secures it but I did not use it on the trip. There was no chord routing hole in the back of the unit on the one I received. That would help route the chord away from the radio, heater controls, etc. A positive is that it is easily moved out of site when you leave your vehicle. It is a bit bulky but should easily fit on the floor of most vehicles out of site of passers by. Overall this is probably the best you can get for the later version of the Tom Tom One. I would recommend it.

Tom Tom Dashboard Mount

We used this on a long trip and it worked very well. It is heavy enough to hold the GPS on the dash without slipping.

No slip, easy to transfer car to car, or hide gps when out of car

I just bought a TomTom XXL 540S 5-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS and purchased this dashboard mount so I could easily move the TomTom from car to car and hide it from sight when I park the car. It works absolutely perfectly. When on the dash, it stays in place even around sharp corners. When I park, I just grab the mount and set it below line of sight below the front seat in about 1 second. Just grab and stash. Makes it less likely someone will see the great GPS I have and decide they want it more then me. No more circles showing on the windshield, telling people I have a GPS somewhere. When you have this mount, you can move all evidence of a GPS by grabbing the mount with the GPS attached and moving it all at once. I'm very happy that I purchased this mount and recommend it to anyone that was easy transfer of their TomTom gps.

Question : Trying to sell my car in Illinois but my car is registered in New York?
I just moved from New York state to Illinois two months ago. However, my company plans me to move me to the office in California.I'm trying to sell my car in Illinois before I move to California and planning to buy a new or used car over there.I don't plan on changing my title, insurance, registration from NY to Illinois since I'm changing my car and live in California. How can I sell an out-of-state registered car?

Answer:
You shouldn't have any problem selling it with a NY title. The person who is buying your car should just be able to take the NY title to the DMV to transfer ownership. It might just take a little longer for the paperwork to be done. You may want to check with the DMV in Illinois just to be sure, as motor vehicle laws do vary from state to state.

Question : How many ways can a car generate its own electricity as it travels?
lets say a car is traveling from New Youk to Los Angeles.YOu are assigned to design this car so that it makes it to Los Angeles. YOu are only allowed 10 gallon tank of gas to start and thats the only gas you are allowed to have for the entire trip.Your car design must be for an electric car that will therefore be able to generate power while it travels from solar energy, using the wind, plus any other innovative ideas you can come up with.Could this car be designed. HOw many different power sources can you imagine creating as the car travels?

Answer:
Solar power, wind power, and i'm no expert but just the wheels turning could generate power...right?

Question : What happens when a stolen car is purchased?
I recently had my car stolen. It's a very hard thing to deal with especially since it's a very expensive car. It was a Mercedes Benz S550 and I had spent a little over $95 thousand on it. I live in Los Angeles and the LAPD have told me that there are so many car thefts that it's almost impossible to find stolen cars. Insurance covers the cars cost but what's important to me is that inside the car I had some family pictures and some of mother and fathers personal belongings that I'd like returned... Is there any chance the thief is stupid enough to try and sell the car?

Answer:
With a high-end car like that, one of two things have most likely happened:1. Sold to a chop shop and is now in pieces.2. Exported to South America, Asia, or Eastern Europe where its lack of a title certificate is of no local concern.Cars like that aren't stolen by joy-riders unless the keys were left in it as it takes a professional thief to get past the anti-theft system.Any personal items in it were chucked in the dumpster.Sorry, but those are the cold, hard realities.

Question : What car company has a good reputation for having parts for old autos made by them?
I heard it's good to have a car from a good car company that after time will still have parts for your old car. Does anyone know which car company is the best in this standard? I think local mechanics would know best. I plan on getting a car and stick with it for a long time.Thank you in advance for your help

Answer:
any american car has parts for at least 10 yrs. and then if the car is popular the aftermarket builds parts for it, you can build a complete19 66 or 67 chevy chevelle from the ground up if you have the frame as the aftermarket makes all the parts you need.

Question : What car should i get a 2007 Pontiac g5 or a 2003 Subaru Impreza wrx?
I am a 19 year old and I am a bit picky on cars because car insurance is high for me. I just want someone that has some experenice with those cars. Suggestion for other cars are fine too, only sport cars or coupes.

Answer:
I'm really surprised to see this question. The wrx is a terrific car. I used to own one for four years and single thing didn't go wrong with it. The insurance was fairly inexpensive on the vehicle as well. The 2002 and 2003 models are considered compact sedans by insurance. The 2004+ models are considered sport sedans, so they have slightly higher insurance. If you're comparing their performance, I can't think of one thing that the Pontiac does better. It MIGHT get better gas mileage.

Question : What car is good for converting to an electric car?
What car is good for converting to an electric car?I'm interested in a car that is lightweight, has a manual transmission, and has room for batteries. I'm trying to convert a gas car to an electric car, and I need one that is light, has manual transmission, room for batteries, etc, etc. Has anyone done that and has advice/know a good car for it? I have a limited price range, and I need a relatively cheap car for it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Answer:
To convert a car to electric, you will find that you don't need many of the thing at the gas car did, for instance the gas tank, radiator, and motor.the electric motor is much smaller the a gas one.many people are building a battery pack to go where the gas tank was along with using the extra space in the engine compartment.this is a link to what some others have done.http://www.electroauto.com/http://www.evalbum.com/cntrl/CAFE/

Question : My personal car lease finished last week although i still have the car. What should I do?
My personal car lease finished last week although i still have the car. What should I do? Nobody from the leasing or finance company has called and they have my correct mobile number and address. The dealership that delivered the car is some 300 miles away. Any suggestions?

Answer:
In most cases, the dealer who leased the car to you will be responsible to accept it when the term of the lease is over. They will want to inspect the vehicle for damages, and close the contract. It is not their responsibility to call you, and, if you do not hear from them, you should make every attempt to contact them. The penalties for a late return can be severe, and simply failing to return a leased vehicle because you have not heard from anyone, will not save you from these penalties......Good luck to you.http://usedcarsale.com/answers/vehicle_leasing/when_do_i_turn_in_lease.aspx

I am working on an application and need to understand how car rental companies move their cars from one location to another when there are too many cars left by customers at one location. One way is to give dirt cheap one way rental offers to customers originating some specific location. However, I am trying to understand do they use auto transport companies to do this for them? If yes how much business auto transporters get one average from such scenarios? Also, do car rental companies have some sort of contracts with auto transporters saying they will move rental cars always or on demand basis? Thanks for your time!
