TomTom Dashboard Mount. Beanbag/Friction style mount for easy setup and removal in vehicle. This mount works with all TomTom products and is a great alternative to windshield mounting your TomTom ONE, XL, or GO product.

Customer Review :

Works OK, better than dash stick disk

The Tom Tom Dashboard Mount works OK. I just used it on a trip from NY to Fla. A good windshield mount would be better but as long as you have ample flat space on your dashboard this should be sufficient. I had no problem with keeping the unit mounting pad attached to the mount. The only real negative is that if you stop quickly or are in an accident the mount can come flying at the passengers. They do provide a small disk that sticks to the dash and gets attached to the mount and supposedly secures it but I did not use it on the trip. There was no chord routing hole in the back of the unit on the one I received. That would help route the chord away from the radio, heater controls, etc. A positive is that it is easily moved out of site when you leave your vehicle. It is a bit bulky but should easily fit on the floor of most vehicles out of site of passers by. Overall this is probably the best you can get for the later version of the Tom Tom One. I would recommend it.

GREAT PRODUCT

This is a great product. This was the first time really using the Tom Tom GPS, and not wanting to stick it to the windshild bought this product. It worked great, the mount was heavy enough so that the GPS didn't tip, and when the day was over I just picked up the whole thing and carried it into the hotel room. It was wonderful. The only thing that happened was when we had a lot of heat from the sun come into the car, the GPS lost it's suction and fell off, but I just put it back on and it worked again. I would recomend this product, it really worked great.

No slip, easy to transfer car to car, or hide gps when out of car

I just bought a TomTom XXL 540S 5-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS and purchased this dashboard mount so I could easily move the TomTom from car to car and hide it from sight when I park the car. It works absolutely perfectly. When on the dash, it stays in place even around sharp corners. When I park, I just grab the mount and set it below line of sight below the front seat in about 1 second. Just grab and stash. Makes it less likely someone will see the great GPS I have and decide they want it more then me. No more circles showing on the windshield, telling people I have a GPS somewhere. When you have this mount, you can move all evidence of a GPS by grabbing the mount with the GPS attached and moving it all at once. I'm very happy that I purchased this mount and recommend it to anyone that was easy transfer of their TomTom gps.

Awful! Waste of money

THe reason I purchased this was because the TomTom falls off the dashboard all the time, no matter how hard I stick it on. It sticks even worse on this! It doesn't stick at all to the glossy surface of this contraption. We aren't using it. Sure is sturdy, but useless.

Tom Tom Dashboard Mount

We used this on a long trip and it worked very well. It is heavy enough to hold the GPS on the dash without slipping.

Great product

I got this as my first GPS. It is easy to use and very accurate. My first one was stolen from my truck. I quickly got a replacement and was happy again. I can't be without one now. I had some more bad luck when my new one went through the wash cycle in my pants. I was heartbroken, but miraculously after drying for 2 weeks it came back to life just before I was going to buy another and has been working fine for 2 months. Get one.

I bought it for my husband, who is thrilled with it. It was easy to get started and is easy to use. I would recommend it.

A great GPS at an even better price!!

It took us (driver and navigator) a few hours of "messing around" to figure out the operation of this GPS. The menu system is logical and intuitive and it seems like we just kept discovering more and more features. Overall a great value for the $$$$.
By the way I have a Garmin model 45 hand-held GPS on my boat. It still works like a champ after nearly 15 years of hard use and abuse. For me GPS is spelled "G-A-R-M-I-N".

Good to be my second GPS

This is my second GPS, my first one was a Garmin eTrex Vista, so this one is better in almost every sense. I really like this GPS, I have used it a couple of times and it has found every POI I have entered it. The mainly reason I bought it is because my wife is new to the city we live in. So I thought it will be good not to spend too much money on a state of the art GPS, this one does its job and it does it really good. My wife has not complained about it, she really like it.

    not accurate

After a 3.5 hour download to update maps (on dsl) it got me off the interstate 4 miles south of the destination and proclaimed I have reached my destination in the middle of the woods. It also tried to put me back on the interstate two times in different locations going the wrong way, north instead of south. Also two times the resturants that it directed me to were not there.

    Rating :

    Insane Routing

I bought this in a pinch (my other unit was in another car) and I used it for 2 trips. On both trips, I knew where I was going but just wanted to make sure I got through some inter-city areas. The Tom-Tom couldn't even get a correct route for the highways. On both trips, the Tom-Tom wanted me to exit to take back roads instead. For example, in going from Chattanooga to Atlanta, you take a highway east for 5 miles then exit on a highway south. I had the unit set to the default "fastest" route. But it had me exit onto country roads which added 30 minutes to the trip. On the second trip, it tried the same thing but I ignored it. And it repeatedly wanted me to exit the highway.

The routing can't be trusted on the Tom-Tom 130. And isn't this the one basic thing that you want from your GPS unit?

    very nice GPS

This is a very good product from TOMTOM
    1. very easy to use
    2. recalculates the roads very fast (compared to other GPS)
    3. 2D/3D views are there
    4. night mode is there
    5. it can be connected to PC for regular updates (though the maps are a bit old and can not be upgraded fir free of cost - but that does not create any problem to me)
    6. It will not tell you the name of the roads (ONE 130S does) but show you the name(current road / next road / freeway / exit / road speed limit / your speed limit / time to destinations etc)
    7. the battery is not very good; need to plug in to the charger to start
    8. Its as good as new (though factory refurbished)
    9. got a $20 mail in rebate easily
    10. value for $ is more than 100%
    11. Less POI (not a problem for me)
    12. serves the basic purpose with more than 100% satisfaction

    Customer Review :

    Very happy with this GPS

I have had 8 GPS units so far and this is by far my favorite, it is the most compact, the easiest to use, and gets the signal the fastest and reroutes the quickest as well.

    Pro's:
    1. I have had several other GPS's that took a while on the first boot up to locate me but this one is very quick.
    2. The rerouting is the fastest of any unit I have had by far.
    3. Has the most POI of the types that I actually need then other units, including AAA stuff.
    4. It has soooo many other features that I could go on and on about, I have not had anything that even compared so I would highly recommend this GPS.

    Con's:
    1. Bluetooth is hard to hear, people seem to hear me fine but I can not hear them very well at all.
    2. I have had a few times it showed me in the wrong place so I missed my turn, this happened three times in one month but I do drive about 3,000 mile a month.
    3. When driving on the Interstate, the mileage to the next exit counts to the next Interstate if there is one before your exit, or several in my case and I need to know how far until my exit, not how far till the next Interstate exit. It is fine if there are no Interstates between when you get on the freeway and your exit.

    Good Aid

Works well. Really like the "bing" audio just before you reach a turn. Magellan really needs to update the user handbook. I bought this specific GPS because it has a pedistrian mode which is supposed to help you find where you parked your car. The user handbook doesn't tell you how to do this.

Love the ease of use on the unit, simple learn and operate. I travel with 2 Garmin owners who were blown away with the performance of the 4700 on a recent trip to Colorado. They love the graphics, how fast it loaded up and how accurate it is. The also loved the way the 4700 would change the route without the "recaculating" Garmin voice. I just returned for a project run in the Kansas City area on both sides of the state line and the 4700 was quick and accurate for every location I needed to be. For the price, you can not beat the performance of this unit.

    disappointed and not mac friendly

I was very disappointed with the Magellan Maestro. For being a GPS that supposedly has all of these great features, I have been quite disappointed.

My first MAJOR issue is that it is not mac-friendly. When you take it out of the box, in order to be able to program in an address, you need to download updates to the firmware or whatever it is. However, you can not do this on a mac computer. I rarely have access to anything else, so it has made it quite difficult to get it working effectively

The voice on it has an underlying angry tone, and there's no way to change it that I've found.

The phone feature is nice, but it does not tell you/read you text messages like many of the other models going at this price do. So I would recommend one of those over the magellan any day!

Overall, it's functional and does what it's supposed to do if you can get it to keep the address and not restart to increase system performance. Hopefully the update will fix that if I ever find a computer to use.

    Magellan Maestro 4700 review

I bought the Magellan Maestro because I live in S. Korea and need to travel to America two or three times a year. Need something easy to use. The Maestro does all this and does it easily sitting at my desk in a foreign country, once I arrive in America I am directed by the magellan to my hotel.

        Customer Review :

Outstanding - Until it locks up

I have used this 855 for thousands of miles (usually trips of around 200 miles). This 855 replaced my Garmin 750. Speech recognition has been the greatest 855 asset. Simple to find most anything. After unpackaging I immediately updated the software to the latest revisions.
Perhaps this is why I have only experienced one problem. This 855 software (latest Rev.) locks-up. To unlock, the battery must be removed then reinserted. Awkward while driving. I had left Garmin an E-mail a week ago which is still unanswered.

        Needs software update

The only problems I have with this unit is when you change or add a detour to your detination. The unit will freeze up and you will lose a lot of time trying to re-boot it. I actually had to pull the battery out on 1 road trip to re-boot. It took ove 10 minues to get it back up and running after searching for a satelite. The unit also has problems locating a sattelite while you are on the move. If you set your destination and go right to it, it works perfect.

        Great product with few drawbacks

Very Good product. I found it a little confusing navigating through the various menu items to set destinations, starting points and routes, but eventually familiarized myself with the process. The screen has frozen on me once and I had to remove the battery and re-insert it to bring it back to life. Windshield mounting is excellent. Road noise did require me to turn the volume up to almost maximum at times. I would rate the voice command feature average. Overall, a great buy.

1st GPS and I like it

The unit is great when I manually put in the location I'm headed for. I haven't had much luck with the speech recognition but I think that says more about me than the GPS. I may have bought a unit that has more than I need. We'll see. I think it's just a question of learning to use it but overall I like how it works.

        Garmin Nuvi 855

As I write this, the Nuvi 855 is the only portable GPS with voice recognition, but it is not yet much competition for a factory unit, despite being 5x to 10x cheaper. The cabin must be very quiet in order to get the voice recognition to work; the radio must be turned-down, and the windows up. It will then work pretty well, within its limits.

Mine has frozen-up once in the several times I've used it thus far, and requires removal of power plus turning it off then on to reset. So far, it's a minor annoyance, but it could get to be very aggravating if it happens very often.

As with several other units I've used, the fully charged battery only lasts a day or two when the unit is turned off. This makes it virtually useless for out-of-car use. Apparently, the unit attempts to stay locked-on to the satellites even when turned off. This results in fast boot-up, but needs less power consumption to be useful. One could always remove the battery (unlike many other systems) to avoid having it go flat.

Most of the other features are as good as other units I've used, so I have no major complaints there. The audio out jack is nice, since I can connect to my car radio when I need some volume. If there were a mic input, that might solve the noise vs. recognition issue.

Now, if either Garmin or Magellan were to combine the features (voice recognition, removable battery, better interface) of the Nuvi 855 with the large (7") screen and customizable one-touch menu of the Roadmate 1700, that would be a must-have GPS receiver!

        Questions & Answers
Question : How do I make my car germ proof for my to be born baby ?
My husband works in a job where he has to transport clients in his car who are unclean and don't take care of their hygiene. Some of them are even street people. My husband does use a car seat cover to protect the seats. We are having a baby in three months and I am very concerned about transporting our baby in our car. We can only afford one car and it is a part of my husband's job to have clients in his car. Any suggestions to take utmost care in prevention of germs or infections via car. Many thanks for any suggestions.

        Answer:
instead of using chemicals to clean, try using vinegar and lemon. it disinfects, but is not harmful to you or baby. the chemicals in lysol, etc have harmful fumes.you can also vacuum the upholstery with a mixture of baking soda and borax.i recommend cleaning the car out at least once a week. before any rides with baby, do a quick wipe down with a vinegar spray. (you can put an essetial oil of your choice so there's no vinegar smell...my fave is lavendar and tea tree oil)it's also easy to make your own wipes...* fill a tupperware container with water. * add some of baby's shampoo. * add a few drops of lavendar and/or tea tree oil for scent and antibaterial treatment.* add Viva paper towels (or baby washcloths) in container.Voila!lavendar and tea tree oil are also great for antibacterial or antifungal treatments...you can add it to anything you need to be antibacterial or antifungal...naturally

Question : My car won't start, the lights and horn work, but the starter (I think) just makes a clicking sound?
I drive a 92 protege. I was giving a standard driving lesson, when, after a stall, the car wouldn't start again. The battery was not holding a full charge, so I replaced it and the posts. I now get a much louder clicking sound, but the car still won't start. I have successfully push-started the car, and checked the fuses. The car is old, but was running fine before the lesson, and gave no indication of trouble to come. Is the starter the only possibility, or does anyone know of another possible explanation?

        Answer:
It could also be the alternator. Even with a new battery, the car will often not start if the alternator is bad. A new battery can hold a charge just fine, but after using up that charge it needs to be recharged by a properly functioning alternator. Otherwise, after several starts a perfectly good battery could be dead. Most auto parts stores can test the alternator while it's still in the car if you can drive it there. You could also take it out and have them test it if you cannot get the car to them. Good luck.

Question : How many ways can a car generate its own electricity as it travels?
lets say a car is traveling from New Youk to Los Angeles.YOu are assigned to design this car so that it makes it to Los Angeles. YOu are only allowed 10 gallon tank of gas to start and thats the only gas you are allowed to have for the entire trip.Your car design must be for an electric car that will therefore be able to generate power while it travels from solar energy, using the wind, plus any other innovative ideas you can come up with.Could this car be designed. HOw many different power sources can you imagine creating as the car travels?

        Answer:
Solar power, wind power, and i'm no expert but just the wheels turning could generate power...right?

Question : My car got totalled in an accident, insurance company wants to buy it. How much will they pay me?
I have a 1993 Nissan NX which was in a decent condition and never gave me any problems. Recently it got rear-ended. The other party's insurance took the responsibility and asked me to get an estimate. The estimate says the repair costs are about $5000 and the mechanic thinks the insurance company will buy the car from me. What price would they pay me for the car? I am a student and wasn't planning on buying a new car. What price should I be happy with. I paid about $2800 8 months ago for the car. Would they be willing to negotiate. If yes, how do I negotiate?

        Answer:
Most insurance companies use NADA to detmine the RETAIL value of your car, not Kelley Blue Book. This is because NADA is based on the actual selling prices of vehs, KBB is based on the ASKING prices of dealers for the same veh. KBB will therefore show a higher "value" for your veh. The value will take into account mileage on the veh, and the insurance company may adjust for prior dmg/condition. Most companies will give you more the veh if you have recently put in a new engine, transmission, or possible new paint job on entire veh. (You will need receipts for the same--and you will only recoup part of the cost of the refurbishments.) Also, the insurace company will take into account the salvage value of your veh--what a salvage yard would buy it for for parts--in deciding if the veh it totaled or not. They will calculate how much repairs are vs the "book" value (less salv value). You may be able to keep the veh (if you want, and depending on the laws in your state) & pay the add'l to have it repaired, but keep in mind that estimates may not include any "hidden" dmg to your veh, and the cost to repair may be higher than what's on the estimate. Also, the ins co would also reduce what they pay you by the salvage value if you keep the car, as the ins co would not be able to recoup the salvage amt by selling the car--you would be able to. The ins co will also ck to see if your veh previously had a salvage title issued on your veh--if it has, your settlement will be reduced...(and you got taken when you bought it...)You should not have a deductible taken from the settlement either if the other company is paying for the dmgs...Pls feel free to contact me personally if you would like further info...I am an auto claims adjuster for one of the top national insurance companies in the US.

Question : What happens when a stolen car is purchased?
I recently had my car stolen. It's a very hard thing to deal with especially since it's a very expensive car. It was a Mercedes Benz S550 and I had spent a little over $95 thousand on it. I live in Los Angeles and the LAPD have told me that there are so many car thefts that it's almost impossible to find stolen cars. Insurance covers the cars cost but what's important to me is that inside the car I had some family pictures and some of mother and fathers personal belongings that I'd like returned... Is there any chance the thief is stupid enough to try and sell the car?

        Answer:
With a high-end car like that, one of two things have most likely happened:1. Sold to a chop shop and is now in pieces.2. Exported to South America, Asia, or Eastern Europe where its lack of a title certificate is of no local concern.Cars like that aren't stolen by joy-riders unless the keys were left in it as it takes a professional thief to get past the anti-theft system.Any personal items in it were chucked in the dumpster.Sorry, but those are the cold, hard realities.

Question : What to do when a car repair shop do unauthorized repairs to your car and will not release it?
I have been with out my car for more than 2.5 months the repair shop keep doing a miss and miss, cause to call it a hit and miss would be lying. To this day the car is not running. Now to release my car it will cost me over $600 for repairs I didn't tell them to make on my car. Since I have a new car I really don't care if it sits there for a lifetime, but can they sale my car parts without having title to the car? And I am responsible for the repair cost that I didn't authorized them to do?I have been with out my car for more than 2.5 months the repair shop keep doing a miss and miss, cause to call it a hit and miss would be lying. Answer:
The business can put a chattel lean on your vehicle. If you are in the US; pay for the repairs with a check. (make sure there are sufficient funds in the account) On the check, note,:"paid under protest." Then file a civil suit in the county/parish where the business is located. That way you won't loose the vehicle and you can keep your credit in tact - and the Civil Court should be able to sort it out for you. Be sure to bring the cashed check, the original repair estimate, and any other evidence with you to court. You should also file a complaint with the Department of Consumer Affairs, your state Attorney General, and the Better Business Bureau.http://monroelouisiana.businesscheck.org/complaint.htmhttp://www.ag.state.la.us/FileAComplain t/Form100-Complaint2.asp http://bbb.org/Good luck!

Question : Trying to sell my car in Illinois but my car is registered in New York?
I just moved from New York state to Illinois two months ago. However, my company plans me to move me to the office in California.I'm trying to sell my car in Illinois before I move to California and planning to buy a new or used car over there.I don't plan on changing my title, insurance, registration from NY to Illinois since I'm changing my car and live in California. How can I sell an out-of-state registered car?

        Answer:
You shouldn't have any problem selling it with a NY title. The person who is buying your car should just be able to take the NY title to the DMV to transfer ownership. It might just take a little longer for the paperwork to be done. You may want to check with the DMV in Illinois just to be sure, as motor vehicle laws do vary from state to state.
