Optima Battery premature failure and poor service

Purchased a dual purpose Optima Blue top battery and it did fail prematurely. Customer service from optima was extremely poor. Not sure if they are worth the money with such poor customer service from Optima.

Good battery, poor shipping (Jan 2010)

We own several Optima batteries, and they work extremely well.
Five stars for this awesome battery! Too bad Amazon hasn't figured out how to ship them properly.

We ordered this as (yet another) inverter battery, and it arrived in a seriously smashed paper-thin box that was roughly 50 percent covered in tape, apparently from en route repairs.

Inside for packing material was about 18 feet X 1 foot strip of thin packing paper you'd cover glassware with. Wadded up it was about the size of a small cantaloupe. IOW, the packing is like what you would expect buying from some shady individual from a classified ad.

Though surprisingly not cracked in half, the battery did have what appears to be an impact or load discoloration on its top. I took pics of all this madness in case I have to return it.

If you are buying the battery for some essential function, such as for your car, you might want to consider purchasing something locally. All the abuse these batteries get in shipping and poor packaging can't possibly be good for them, and might degrade them mechanically inside and leave you prematurely stranded somewhere.

I worried about packaging as I read these reviews before I bought, and it seemed like Amazon got their act together with shipping. Now I see its more like rolling the dice.

Best Battery for the money.

Optima Batteries 8016-103 D34M BlueTop Dual Purpose Battery
I ordered this battery for my boat mainly because I have two others that has given me great service. This battery being a totally sealed unit it needs no service. Being a capacitor coil type with a acid gell it doesn't spill and can be mounted in any position. Also it is vibration resistant like no other battery of it's type.
What made it more of a great thing was the price, Amazon.com came through again.

Great battery, horrible packaging

These batteries are great, I've owned several. They're non-spillable and last much longer than your standard lead/acid batteries. The problem is apparently Amazon does not read any of the reviews here about packaging. My batteries arrived in a thin cardboard box with one piece of brown wrapping paper wrapped around them. Needless to say both of the batteries were destroyed and now I'm at the mercy of Amazon's customer service to get new ones. Thanks Amazon!

Improved packaging for Optima D34M

I just received my Optima D34M (October, 2009). Maybe Optima and Amazon read the earlier reviews about poor packaging, and damaged cases, and acted on them. The battery arrived in just 5 days (I used the super saver free shipping-UPS Ground), and was safely resting on a thick white foam custom shaped cradle, all enclosed in a roomy box that was triple thick and easily up to the task. There are even 2 hand-hold cutouts on the box, to make it easier to handle with care. Good job, Amazon and Optima. A bit frustrating is that I now notice the price has dropped $20.00 just 6 days after I received my battery. Darn!

Handy tire guage

I bought a couple of these, one to keep in each car to maintain proper pressure. I always check the tires before a long trip, but in day to day driving, I sometimes get that pesky dashboard warning that a tire pressure is low. If away from home, I stop at a handy pump at a gas station to top up the tire. The station pumps usually have lousy gauges, so keeping a gauge in the car lets me get it right. I've not checked the accuracy but the two I have are at least self consistent.

This was actually a purchase for my husband. I was having tire pressure problems and he was having to check them every couple of days. He has only had very good comments about the new tire gauge. He finds it very sturdy, acurate, easy to use, and easy to read the face numbers. It was a good purchase, and we would recommend it to others.

Better than the big name bulbs

I seemed to blow through the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs VERY quickly. It seemed like I replaced each bulb every 3-6 months. I tried all their different gimmicks - cheap ones, expensive ones, long lasting, etc. I bought these Hella bulbs because they were a little less expensive. I can't remember when the last time was that I replaced a Hella. Overall, I'm very happy - they seem to last longer and are just as bright.

We've changed oil filters and several of our product development technicians are sportsman class drag racers. They insisted we offer an oil filter that corrected the headaches they experienced over the years changing oil filters. We have all been there: Whether it's remembering where that disappearing canister tool is; or having oil leak all over your garage and yourself; or finally giving up and pounding a screwdriver through the filter just to get if off. Each of our automotive and marine oil filters comes with a 1 nut welded to the top of the canister so they can be easily wrenched-off with a standard tool. Our motorcycle and ATV oil filters come with a 17 mm nut. Our oil filters use resin impregnated cellulose filter media. This allows for higher flow rates while providing outstanding filtration. K&N is the best

This filter is "upgrade" for my car and it helped me gain some oil pressure over all but most noticeable on idle after some driving usually it goes below 30psi but with this filter its stays around 32psi which is good.

I am following my mechanics advice on this one,I already own the air filter for my Kia Optima that he recomended for me to istall in the car
and I did notice a diffence right away,as for the oil filter I do not know
because my car is not due for an oil change yet,but I am sure that it will
protect my engine better than the rest out there,if it is K&N it's good stuff!

Great for 7500 miles oil change interval

I change the oil of my Accord every 7500 miles, so I decided to use a quality filter to match quality oil. The K&N HP-1004 filter was the chosen one. It is a high flow filter, heavy-duty construction and a convenient 1" wrench nut for ease removal. Please do not use Bosch, STP or Supertech in your Honda. They should be ok for 3000 miles, but your car does not deserve them for 7500 mi oil changes.

If you do not like K&N, consider using Mobil 1 oil filters.

k&n oil filter

I've used k&n air filters for years - so why not try their oil filters? They work wonderully. I drive a 2000 Honda Prelude SH and the oil filter is located on the back of the engine in such a position that the oil in the filter drips all down the back of the engine block upon removal with normal filters - not with the k&n!! Only a few drops now drip down, what a difference.
