Customer Review :
Very nice clamps
I love these clamps. I've been using stainless band clamps on my exhaust since I found out about them around 10 years ago, and have been very happy with them all. The set I first put on are still shiny and new looking (after I wipe the dirt off), despite being on a daily driver which sees snow and salt every year.
These pre-formed lap joint style clamps are very nice on a lap-style joint, obviously. I like not having to stretch the clamp out like I used to with the old flat clamps. The Dynomax clamps come with a lump of sealant goo in the joint which improves the seal over just a bare clamp. They also have a bar on one side with threaded holes, essentially making for captive nuts. This makes the install easier, but if you strip one, you need to find a nut and washer. These can definitely be stripped, which is why I gave the clamp 4 stars. If you go too nuts on the tightening (I usually use an impact wrench, and sometimes forget to reduce the torque), the threads will come right out. If you read the directions and only tighten to about 60 ft-lbs, though, it'll be fine. I'd prefer a stronger "real" nut, though, as car guys - like myself - tend to see a relatively big bolt and just tighten the snot out of it, and we don't read directions. :)
Anywho, I have several of these exact clamps in use on four cars currently, and none have failed (except for the one I stripped out, which is working fine now with a nut in place) after several years. I'll definitely buy more when I next build an exhaust. I especially like using these on the inlet and outlet side of the muffler, since it doesn't dent the pipe and lets me replace the muffler / disassemble the exhaust for removal as needed. Welds or cheap u-style clamps don't let me do that...
My other useful tip: use anti-seize on the bolts before you install them. The threaded insert doesn't appear to be steel, and the anti-seize makes any future disassembly a lot more convenient. You'll be glad you did.

Questions & Answers
Question : How do i find out what exhaust system fits my car?
How do i find out what exhaust system fits your car when your car is stuck on the street with the pipe hanging in a snow storm and u dont feel like hanging it at the bottom. The clamps and the pipe are completely corroded and i need the whole entire system changed. i dont think i can do it myself in this weather so a shop might be necessary. But how do i find a fitting kit?
Answer:
You can go to any muffler shop and get a oem exhaust system with the same hangers as the original exhaust. You can buy the pipes from auto parts stores too.To do it you will need to either jack the car up and put it on jack stands. You need room to work, and it is hard leveraging parts when your arms are extended. Then you may need a air chisel to brake off broken rusted support bolts, unlees you can get a sawzall to cut it off.Hardest is most exhausts are welded together. And not many people can do the welding correctly. It is important to weld it so deadly exhaust fumes can not leak into the car.

Question : Exhaust/Muffler Clamp Problems?
I have a 2in exhaust system and just added a cherrybomb glasspack muffler, I used a small clamp that looks like a U and then has another piece that bolts on the bottom to hold the glasspack onto the existing pipe. It fell off, not the whole muffler, but the clamp didn't seem to hold the glasspack to the pipe good enough and now the muffler is just hanging there not connected! What did I do wrong? I tightened the clamp very well, enough that the paint on the cherrybomb chipped around it. Also the glasspack goes over the existing system.I just don't understand why it won't stay. Please Help!#2: No directional arrows, cherrybombs are designed to go on both ways. And yeah the pipes fit on really good. I turned it around to the fresh (never clamped) side and slide it on further than before because I worked alot harder at getting the muffler on over the original pipe. Gonna clamp it and test it tommorow morning.

Question : I drive an Olds Cutlass Supreme. Two exhaust clamps have rusted off - Do I need to replace them?
It's a '95 Olds. Don't want to put too much $ into it, but don't want my exhaust system to fall off either! How much could I expect such a repair to cost?
Answer:
If these clamps were connected to a hanger I would try to resupport the pipe.. If it is rusted together and not involved with hanger. I would just let it be... It's only when we want them to come apart that they never do. If it's questionable, take it somewhere to be looked at...

Question : Is the muffler on a 1998 mustang welded to the exhaust system or clamped on?
i cant tell from being under it and i dont want to jack it up and find out that its something that i dont want it to be
Answer:
It's welded. I had my stang's exhaust changed out a few years ago, and they had to remove the stock exhaust with a cutting torch.

Question : Install catback exhaust myself or have a professional do it?
I could install my new catback exhaust system relatively easily. All that is involved is sawing off the old one and clamping on the new one. However, I have heard that professionals will weld it together. Is this safer and more worth it to have it professionally done w/ welding?A lot of people install catbacks by themselves. Having it professionally done would cost me about $150-$200.
Answer:
Have it done professionally. If it rattles, they have to fix it. Besides welding seals the pipes, no chance for an exaust leak.

Question : Does Slip On Exhaust Mean It Doesnt Need To Be Welded?
I just bought an exhaust system for my new 2008 Raptor 250. Its The gytr slip on muffler and the gytr header. also got the jet kit. i was wondering if the muffler needed to be welded onto the header pipe or if it just slips on there and needs a clamp or what. there was no instructions. also i was wondering if the header pipe needed a new gasket cause it didnt come with one also. or if i could use the old one! thanks
Answer:
what they mean is the pipes will slip over the stock ones ,but you still have to use clamps to hold them on with,or they wont stay on and will leak they all have to have something to hold them on or else they would fall off, good luck.

Question : How do I reopen the clamp marks on a muffler?
When i installed my exhaust system I used clamps. Took the tailpipe off and there is a groove in the muffler not letting me put the tailpipe back on now. Is there a way to get that groove out? Thanks.
Answer:
There is a tool available which will expand the inside of the pipe.

Question : exhaust question: what is this called?
ok, so im contemplating installing a new exhaust system. i will be clamping it all together for the most part. I will need a piece of tubing that will connect a 2 inch muffler inlet/outlet to the 2 inch exhaust pipe. What, exactly, is the technical name for this peice of tubing? and where can i buy it?also, lets just say that the muffler is 2.5 inches, and i need an adapter to fit that onto a 2 inch pipe. what is that adapter called?ive googled this and couldnt come up with any simple solutions. please help!
Answer:
Called 2" x 2.5" adapter, try Auto Zone Discount, Benett Auto, PepBoys, they should have that.

Question : exhaust system question?
i have a 1988 olds. delta 88, 3.8,and it has a long intermediate pipe on it and the question i want to know,is if the pipe is rusty, not any holes, will it make a rattle noise, some people said if it gets too rusty inside, then it can rattle.i checked all the heat shields, all hangers and clamps and the pipe isnt hitting on anything, but it seems to rattle, when iam driving.would a rusty pipe cause that? and its got a new cat and muffler on it too.
Answer:
It can cause a rattle if you have excessive rust. I would look at replacing the whole pipe. If it's rusted enough then you will want to replace it anyway. It's going to start getting holes soon.
