Keep the Sable Going

Saved me $300 over local chain repair shops. If you own a 2001-2003 Taurus or Sable and drive in the Northeast winters, your going to need these. Ford original equipment can't hold up.

excellent replacement for weak oem struts and springs

Excellent product at a very good price. Decided to be proactive and replace the struts/springs on my Sable after unexpected coil spring failure on my wifes Sable which resulted in tire puncture, not to mention over $800 repair bill. If you own a Sable or Taurus and have not replace your struts, you will. Plan the purchase and replacement and you will be far better off. not to mention the original ride height of my car has been restored.

monroe strut purchase online for very good price. I was going to install myself, but for $60 installation fee each I took it to Mavis to have installed. Very good ride. I replaced struts and springs due to broken rear spring on my 99 sable.

Bad Experience

I bought this part along with KYB struts for my '97 I30 Infinity. The KYB parts catalog lists this item as the proper front strut boot for my vehicle. This part does not fit as the neck opening on the boot is only half the diameter of the strut cylinder. In addition the bumper is too big to fit in the mating top flange of the strut. I had to cut the top of the boot off to make it fit. This of course destroyed the purpose of the boot as the strut's moving parts will now be exposed to the elements through the open top of the boot. Unfortunately, this is one of those things you find out after it is too late - when the parts are out of the car laying on the floor and starting over just isn't worth it.

Two piece design. The bump stop slips into a groove in the bellow. This is a great price for 11 bucks. I used these for the rear of my 240sx s13. Must have item when replacing old shocks. You need to order 2, they are sold individually.

Easy Fix

My husband put these on our 2001 caravan. This all in one unit was a much simpler way to replace struts if you don't have a spring compressor.I believe it even raised the height of our vehicle a little bit. You can sure tell the difference in how this van now rides compared to the old struts. I have recommended these to my friends.

Mostly pros

I bought 171572 L & R. For DIYers, the quick strut makes sense unless you have a spring compression tool. And even if you do, its dangerous. With not much more than the tools I need to do most work on my '01 Dodge Grand Caravan, I changed both struts in about 3 hours. The only thing I didn't like was that my original struts have round holes for two straight strut-to-steering knuckle bolts. These Monroe struts require one straight bolt and one cam bolt. Though I try to do my own work to reduce expense, I now have to take the van for an alignment as the toe-in/out needs to be shop adjusted. Otherwise, at $125 each, that's less than 1/2 the parts & labor cost quoted by my local garage.
