Editorial Review :
Have troublesome front end accessory drive application? Look to Gates for a solution.
Once in awhile a design comes along that can test your wits. Take the 3.0L, 3.3L and 3.8L engines found on 1996-2000 Chrysler Voyager, Grand Voyager, Caravan and Grand Caravan mini vans. The serpentine belt can come off the drive when the vehicle is driven into a deep puddle of water or through a snow bank. And when the belt comes off, your customer can be left stranded.
A better solution has been developed by the Gates engineers. The System Solution includes a double sided Micro-V belt, a grooved idler pulley and matching tensioner which includes a grooved pulley. Each of the components are designed to work precisely with other parts in the system and offer a true solution.
The pulley grooves and belt ribs of Gates System Solution Kit lock together making it virtually impossible for the belt to jump off the drive. Even misalignment problems can be solved. The "unfixable" now becomes "fixable" thanks to Gates.

Double sided V belt fixed sqealing
On a 1998 Grand Caravan 3.3L, the dealer 60k service included an OEM serpentine replacement. Several months later the belt began chirping then permanently squealing. Using belt dressing helped briefly until next startup. Cleaning the belt and all the pulleys did not eliminate the squeal. All the accessories bearings felt smooth and true. After thorough research I bought the Gates replacement and after installing it the squealing has been completely eliminated. My one hesitation to 5 stars is that it was a bear to install. There was no way I could get the belt over the idler wheel with full compression of the tensioner. I had to place the belt on the uninstalled idler wheel and then screw in the wheel with the kit-supplied bolt, which was still hard to line up and feel confident of it's torque. The dust guard washer seems sloppy. The other challenge is removing the tensioner wheel bolt working from under the vehicle. This is not Gates problem but a Chrysler design factor. Be sure to have a universal joint and extension for the socket.

Gates Belt Drive Kit
After exhausting all options that I was aware of to fix the serpentine belt coming off, I purchased and installed the Gates Kit. Prior to this, I was going to get rid of the car,(like so many others that I had read or heard about). I can only say that I have not had a problem up to this point, but I am very hopeful, based on the long term success that I have read others have had. This is a very inexpensive fix(I did it myself), and even if you have to have a mechanic install it, it will probably cost less than 1 monthly car payment. If you have doubts about your ability to install, take it to a mechanic. The only difficulty I had installing the kit was installing the belt itself. It is extremely tight and difficult to get on. That said it does work as advertised. The service that I received from Amazon was excellent. Very quick delivery and No problems. Easy way to shop and receive whatever at your doorstep. Thanks!

Gates belt drive kit solves problem
I purchased this belt kit because of problems with the belt coming off after driving through water. I found numerous comments on the web that indicated this would solve the problem of the belt coming off, as well as solving the noisy belt problems. The reviews also indicated that getting the new thicker / stiffer belt on would be a challenge.
I finally discovered the problem with installing the belt. The wrench I used to pull the tensioner down was hitting against a bracket, and I was not getting the tensioner moved all the way. If you have trouble getting your belt on, you probably are not rotating the tensioner far enough.
Even with all the effort required to install this kit, I am very pleased with the results.

Chrysler V6 Replacement Serpentine Belt
The belt is to replace the existing belt on the Chrysler V6 with a known problem. The belt slips off when wet due to some design issue. The new belt is ribbed on both sides and the idler and tensioner pulley are ribbed to keep the belt in place so that it does not slip off. It works great and I would recommend this to anyone that is experiencing this problem on their Chrysler V6.
