Excellent Performance, Will Buy Again

I installed these in my 2003 Civic Si. Their performance is excellent, no fade and noticeably smoother and better brake performance over OEM brakes I had installed. I've had them installed for about two months now with virtually no dust accumulation. The slight noise I hear I believe is due to the EBC slotted/dimpled rotors I replaced the OEM rotors with. These pads are light years better than OEM or any Raybestos OE replacement.

Overall I'm very happy with the purchase, Amazon's price/prime shipping. I highly recommend them and would most definitely purchase again.

Amazon shipped the product very quickly, package arrived in great conditions.

These are for my 2007 Honda Accord rear disc brakes, replacing the original pads. So far very satisfied with these pads. Very quiet, no to no dust, leaving my alloy wheel shiny and clean. Stopping power is great, no fading, I even want to say its stopping power is a little bit better than the original Honda pads. Really like these ThermoQuiet QC series pads, would definitely use them for my other car as well.

Question : Do the brake pads in a four-wheel disc brake system wear out evenly?
Amazingly enough, at my age, this is the first car I've driven that didn't have drums in the back. So having four wheel disc is nice, and its brake repair I can do myself, but I was just wondering.

Answer:
Fronts are engineered to take on more of the braking so they typically wear out 30-50% quicker.

 

Question : how do i brake so as to preserve the long life of my brake pads?
I brake early, usually 2 blocks before I stop. I heard that this wears out the brakes. Is this true? What is the best way to brake to preserve the brake pads/system?

Answer:
It would be alot more efficient to preserve gas than brake pads. Use the brakes like a sane person would.

 

Question : Does using the Anti-lock braking system wear out brake pads quicker?
Hi. The winter months have finally arrived where I live and when I drive on snow/ice, my wheels lock up and ABS kicks in. Is it bad on my brakes to use the Anti-lock feature all the time? And by all the time, I mean everytime I drive in snow/ice ABS kicks in at some point. If so, I'll just have to modify my driving habits so my wheels don't lock up as easily. Thanks so much for your help.

Answer:
I do not think your concern should lay at all with the fact that ABS may or may not wear out your brake pads quicker (it will not wear them out any quicker than a normal stop). Your concern should lay in the fact that you are probably overdriving the conditions. It is quite common around stop signs and stop lights for ABS to come on because other cars have melted the snow and made ice. Ultimately, your concern should be driving at a speed that gives you plenty of time to stop and steer if need be.

Answer:
First, I would take it back to the shop to fix. Sounds like they screwed up the calipers or installed the wrong pads, or maybe missing some shims.

 

Question : What would make your brake pads glaze over?
Thecaliper is still good, and the brake pads are still good from the last changed. They are glazed on and the brake system of my 1998 Ford Explorer Sport Edition is making a hard noise, the steering wheel to shake, and the car pulls to the drivers side when the brakes are pressed. I need help because I have two days to figuire the problem out. Is it the rusted rotor on the passenger side, the caliper, the lower ball joint, the idler arm , tire rod, or the pitman arms? Help please.

Answer:
OK. I don't know how this ended up in Arts and Humanities, but here we are. Suggest you reask the question in the transportation category. Anyway, pulling to one side indicates that the caliper on the other side is NOT working or the brake pad is seriously damaged. The caliper may be frozen or it just may have air in it. Since the vehicle is over 10 years old I am going to guess the caliper is frozen. Pad glazing is usually from getting really hot, like a stuck caliper. If the pad is glazed it is not "still good". Sorry. I am gonna guess you are looking at a new caliper and new brake pads. My advice is to replace both calipers at the same time because when one fails, the other is certain to follow - you know, just like headlights.Best of luck.

How long should you wait to replace brake pads or other parts of the brake system?

Answer:
On most modern cars, there is a brake pad wear indicator that lights up on your dashboard. However you can do a visual inspection looking at the brake pads within their calipers; either through your rims if the gaps between the spokes are big enough, or you will have to remove the wheel and check the pads. If your pad is less than 4 millimeters thick, it’s time you think of getting new pads.As for your brake disks, if you feel the surface of the brake disk, you will see that an outer edge is growing cause the disk is wearing out. If this edge grows to about a millimeter thick, then you’ll have to change the disk. Drum brakes are the hardest to detect when they are worn out. The drum has to be disassembled to check the wear of both the drum and the pads. But drum disks, which are usually located on the rear wheels, wear off in less time than the front disk brakes. Wear and tear of brakes is dependant upon several variables, such as car weight, car average speed when brakes are used, how often you use your brakes, types of pads and friction surfaces of disks and drums, and the age for the mentioned frication surfaces.

 

Question : Can I safely replace brake pads on an ABS system?
I have always changed my own brake pads but, this is my first car with ABS. Do I do anything different?

Answer:
Not to my knowledge. When the ABS system fails, operation just reverts to the standard brake action. The individual ABS wheel sensors are back out of the way, so there's not much risk in damaging them. So I just change the pads or shoes the way you normally do on non-ABS cars.

 

Question : Brand new brakes squeaking when I brake? I got the new brake system about 2 weeks ago?
I replaced my front brake pads and rotors, and my rear brake shoes and machine drums two weeks ago. When I brake, as my car is about to stop there is a squeaking coming from the front brakes . The sound also comes if I brake hard. I realize that sometimes new brakes may make sounds... but its been two weeks, and its not the normal brake squeak, it is an intermittent squeak depending on the speed of my tires.

sometimes as you brake the brake pads will and can move inside the caliper(this is obvious if you remove the pad and the paint is worn off the steel backing of the pad)causing a squeal and even whilst driving(no brakes used)to rectify the problem there is a product called brake anti squeal it is like silastic the goes onto the back of the pad creating a insulating layer so the pad is not rubbing on the caliper.hope this helps

All I did was replace the front pads. Could I have introduced air into the brake line without even touching any other part of the brake system?

Answer:
yes, you could have if the res was low on fluid. The more the pad has to travel (due to wear) the more fluid it takes. It could require all of the fluid if the brakes were real low, thus letting air into the lines. Check the fluid level. if it is low (half full or less) then there is a good chance that there is air in the system. Get a quart of DOT3 and start bleeding until the air is out (may takie some time if the air is at the top of the lines as I suspect)Have fun.

 

Question : how can i tell what kind of brake system my 2000 jeep grand cherokee has.?
i need to change the brake pads in the front but when i called the auto parts store they asked me what brake system? ATE or Akebono i dont know aint that handy to just tell. can anyone give me any info its a 2000 JGC Laredo 6 cylinder.

Answer:
The ATE (Alfred Teves) are the OEM brakes pads, shoes and calipers on 1999 and later Grand Cherokees. There was a TSB on front brakes on certain Grand Cherokees that had issues with warping rotors causing vibration, excessive wear and noise.For those vehicles the front brake pads, rotors and calipers were replaced with Akebono parts. There are things to look for under the vehicle but the easiest thing to do is to go to your local dealer ask the service manager or parts counter to check and see if the parts were replaced, they will need your VIN number.They can also check to see if you have one of the models that had the defective parts although most were 1999 models. If they were not changed you have ATE.
