Questions & Answers
Question : Replacing brake fluid in front wheel disc brake system on motorcycle?
The brake line that connects the actual brake to the lever up near the handlebars is completely full of air. When I added brake fluid to the resovoir at the top and pulled lever multiple times, it would not pull the brake fluid through, meaning it just sat in the resevoir. How do I get brake fluid to go through the resovoir and down the brake line again, could there be something stuck in the mechanism that moves when the brake lever is pulled in?

Answer:
open the bleed valve on the disc brake, let the fluidgravity bleed, maybe pump it a little to start...tap the resovoir with a screw driver handle (tap)and the air will come out the resovoir,, keep fluid inresovior filled

Answer:
TRUE OR FALSE1. the parking brakes are provided with equal cable tension by the cable adjusters.False. 2.the parking brakes are provided with equal cable tension by the equalizer. True, But: equalizer has limited compensation. you can still have uneven tension is the adjustment is off enough3. it is important to remember that the parking brake is not part of the vehicle hydraulic brake system. Is this a question? Question : Hydraulic disk brake?
Hi i was just wondering if you can replace hydraulic brake levers rather than the whole brake system as i have broken my brake lever?

Answer:
Yes, you can actually buy just the lever blade so if there's nothing wrong with the lever assembly you dont have to swap that. If you did damage the assembly itself, you can order the level from the manufacturer but, depending upon the brakes you have, it may actually be cheaper to just buy new brakes.

Question : How do I convert the shifting/braking system of a tri bike to that of a road bike?
Can I just get some drop handlebars and brake levers and leave my mechanic to do the rest? Mostly, I'd like to know what I need to buy. I have a Trek equinox 7 that I want to convert to a roadie for group rides. Thanks!

Answer:
along with the aforementioned, you will also need shifters- there are many different kinds of these for cow prodders. also, its more than likely that you may need a new bar end and seat post (due to the new steeper body position/angle). your mechanic may have these: bar end tape, housing, brake cables, cork etc.

Question : I have a 1992 Kawasaki GT550 and i want to upgrade the front brake system?
The Kawasaki GT550 to those who dont know, is similar to the kz spectre. Mine has the standard dual calipier system on the front which is constantly giving me greaf. The pads on the left wear out quicker than the right. The presure at the lever isnt very amazing and bleeding them - well i go through gallons of brake fluid only to get the same result.I feel its a waist of time stripping the calipiers down and resealing them, as ive done that trick on my Kwak GT750, and it made no improovement and still braked harder on the one side.So i was thinking, if any one knows a caliper that is a twin pot say a cbr600 calipier, and that i could easily drop on without clearance issues. Then i could dump this crappy kwacky system in the bin.Calipiers systems im thinking of are Honda CBR600 ( but i dont know if its a twin or single system) or the Suzuki GS500 calipier.Im thinking to buy a complete calipier, pads and master cylinder. Then to sort out a hose to the correct length.update to a newer bike- If the japanese giants made a newer bike to replace the GT550 i would be interested - but they dont.My GT550 has:-shaftdrive, all newer ive bikes around 550cc, from what ive seen are chain.-50mpg, most modern bikes are more thirsty- four inline engine- can easily clock up mileages of upto 250tho, mine has done 82thou, recently rebuilt the engine myself to fix oil leaks n install a new camchain. The things my bike lacks that i wish it had are:better front brakes, liquid cooled engine and perhaps a bit of a face lift lol. Thanks to all the positive answers so far. I dont really want to get id of this GT, besides which its worth next to nothing in a trade in as its a 92 with 82thou on the clock. Im the second owner, and since ive had it i have completetly rebuilt it and had the frame n bits powdercoated.I will try all the suggestions mentioned.

Answer:
I have had Kawasakis for 25 years now and your issue is not too uncommon. For my 1984 Gpz900 I rebuilt the brake lever plunger with a kit from Kawasaki and switched to a grippy brake pad. Made a huge difference.I suggest a specific owner's site for your bike to get the best recommendations on front end brake swaps.

Question : My mountain bike has hydraulic disk brakes. How do I fix a brake lever that is loose and hits the handle bars?
My bike is a Giant RainierThe brakes are the 'Sole' Model by HayesOvertime, the brakes are getting loose, and are now hitting the handle bars when I brake hardI would like to avoid draining the system

Answer:
Most hydraulic brakes have an adjustment screw that is accessible between the lever and the bars. On the Hayes its a very small hex screw that can be screwed in to take up the play on the lever. They are somewhat difficult to get to because of the location but a few turns in a clockwise direction should take care of your problem. Be sure your hex wrench is well seated into the socket because they have very thin edges and will readily wallow out when if the wrench is not seated properly. Don't forget to check the pads themselves for excessive wear, if there's not at least 1/16" of pad left change them too.

Question : Can i use the 07 xtr dual control hydraulic brake levers for other hydraulic brake systems like magura?
Can i use the 07 xtr dual control hydraulic brake levers for other hydraulic brake systems like magura?

Answer:
I very seriously doubt it will work. Plus, disk brake systems are so expensive, I'd never want to take the risk of messing them up by attempting to mix and match. As you probably know, hydraulic systems are usually sold in complete assembled sets - you get the levers, brakes lines, brakes and rotors in one complete package. They are not usually pieced together. So, as soon as you take one system apart, you will have to completely bleed the hybrid system to make it work.Secondly, Shimano recommends only Shimano mineral oil for their brakes, while Magura recommends only Magura brand mineral oil. They both warn that using the wrong viscosity oil will cause problems. I am pretty sure Avid uses standard brake fluid which is incompatible with mineral oil. Finally, I am willing to bet the systems have incompatible design parameters. Thus, even if you figure out the oil issue, get them bled, etc. one set of levers may not properly actuate another set of brake calipers.Hope this helps.

Question : Does the clamp of a hooded brake lever have a special name?
What would you call the silver clamp that is adjustable? And also, are there brake levers that aren't hooded that have this sort of mounting system? Thanks!

Answer:
I don't think they have a special name. And yes, there are brake levers out there that do not have hoods and use these clamps. I have some on my bike right now.
