Question : uh oh! what happens if i accidentally put power steering fluid in my brake system ..?
uh oh! what happens if i accidentally put power steering fluid in my brake system ..?

Answer:
it's hydraulic oil it shouldn't hurt it if you just put a very little amountPS fluid will not hurt the sealsIf it would you wouldn't have power steering cause it has all kinds of seals in the power steering systemIt all boils down to different additives in each system for different uses.LIKEeasy flowing of fluid(PS)Thicker fluid for Better cooling(Transmission)Thinner fluid and high temperature rating(Brake Fluid)etc.Brake fluid has a higher boiling pointFor long term brakingtransmission fluid or power steering fluid could risk a firein large amounts

Question : power steering fluid in brake system Ford F150?
power steering fluid was put in brake system n took it to Ford Dealership and was quoted $3400 to fix - not sure if it needs all the repairs feedback?

Answer:
They're CRAZY!!! Try to get the breaks completely bleeded and replace with brake fluid. It's more than likely that the P.S. fluid didn't do damage to the lines. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Question : How do I fix a 2003 honda element brake system that has been contaminated with power steering fluid?
I got power steering fluid into my master cylinder by mistake. I broke down on the road by having the brakes cease up on me. I had it towed to big o tires and was told that the system has been contaminted with an oil product (power steering fluid I think). I need to fix this and think I can replace the components myself. but don't know what to do about the aBs module replacedment and scan tool part?

Answer:
How much power steering fluid did you get in there? it can't be much.the only way to do it right is to flush out the brake fluid. start by using a turkey baster or a syphon to remove all of the fluid from the master cylidner. then start the flush; you can do that by opening the bleeder valve on the far right wheel then put a hose over the bleeder and pump the brake pedal to get all of the fluid out of that line. then go to the left rear and do the same thing. then the right front and then the left front. keep adding new brake fluid to the master cylinder to replace the fluid that comes out.do that about 3 times and you should get all of the contaminated fluid out of the system,i can't quite understand how the contaminated fluid would cause the brakes to lock. I could see it causing the pedal to fade or drop when hot but power steering fluid is a hydraulic fluid and even though its a different base (petroleum v. mineral oil) I don't see how it would cause the system to lock.I don't think the ABS is a separate issue. I imagine you could open a line on the ABS and pump the brake pedal to try to get the fluid out of there as well.as for the seizing, find out what seized and go from there. the front brakes have calipers that can be rebuilt; rear brakes are usually disc as well.

Question : What should I do? A tow truck company driver put power steering fluid where the brake fluid goes ?
I ended up hitting a car after my brakes gave out on me. (Close to Close towing company) Will the whole brake system have to be replaced? 1999 Ford taurus 6cyl abs brakes dual .

Answer:
There is a big problem here NO fluid can be put in the brake system except DOT 3-4 people telling you you can use power steering fluid are 100% wrong brake fluid has a very high boiling point and is extremely stable, power steering fluid will ruin your system and deteriorate your seals. You will need to replace your master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake calipers, your abs HCU unit, the rubber brake lines, and have the system completely flushed. I would go to a dealer have everything documented and a price quoted, get in touch with the tow company and if you say you hit another car contact the police in the town that the accident happened and let them know you would like it noted about the improper fluid was put in by that company, then contact a lawyer

Question : why does the brake pedal of power brake system get too hard when its ignition is off ?
why does the brake pedal of power brake system get too hard when its ignition is off ?

Answer:
Most cars have vacuum boost power brakes. If you turn off the ignition (or if the car stalls), you have enuf vacuum in the booster for about 2 pumps of the brake pedal. After that, the brakes will work, but there will be no power assist. This situation you describe is normal. You might also notice that the power steering doesn't work with the key off. Turn the engine off, and you lose all power accessories.

Question : Dual master cylinders? Automotive power brake systems?
please help me answer these questionsTechnician A says a dual master cylinder's rear piston assembly is called the primary piston. technician B says a dual master cylinder's rear piston assembly is called the secondary piston. Who is right?A,B,Both, Neither.Technician A says a certain automotive power brake systems use engine vacuum to assist brake pedal application. Technician B says certain automotive power brake systems use a vacuum pump to assist brake pedal application. Who is right?

Answer:
neither on the cylinder .Dual master cylinders basically are A runs the Left front and the right rear, B runs the right front and the left rear. the actual location in the system is dependent on make and model. The reason for the crossover is so that if one fails, you would still have at least some control and stopping power in a crisis.Power brakes are run by vacuum. Some cars have a pump, and some cars have a connection to the intake manifold and use engine vacuum. The most common is to run it off the engine vacuum, but again, it can be model specific. The main reason the engine vacuum system is much more popular is that is has fewer moving parts and therefore is more reliable, and has less maintenance costs.

Question : Mercedes 420sel Rear brakes dont work. Power bleed the system. Stil get spongy brake pedal feeling. No leaks!?
Can it be the brake master cylender or maybe the abs? The front brakes work fine but the rear brakes dont brake at all.

Answer:
you still have air in the lines. there is probably a air pocket somewhere. did you bleed them the right way? bleed them this way. start with the right rear then the left rear, go to the right front then the left front.i,ll tell you something that might work if you think you have air in the lines. a old mechanic told me this once. you will need someone to help you. loosen all the bleeders, have your buddy to hit the brakes only once and when the pedal is all the way to the floor have him to hold the brake to the floor while you tighten all the bleeders.

Question : Could I use a turkey baster to change my brake fluid and power steering fluid.?
I'm not looking for a flush but I am looking for a cleaner liquid. Is it alright to do the brake fluid like that? Would this effect the brake system malfunctioning at all if I were to take the fluid out of the container in my engine bay? Thanks

Answer:
Nope just make sure you put the right stuff back in. Dont forget to that you will have to bleed the brakes when you are done, which require another person. if air gets in you will think that thew brakes donbt work but it will just be air
