Questions & Answers
Question : are clutch cables on kawasakis universal?
my clutch caple is trash and i need a new one. I can probably install it myself, but are cables universal for all bikes, and if so is it usually for a shop to carry them?

Answer:
no clutch cables are not universal... however, if you're having problems finding a new one for some reason, there are others that would work... you'd just have to find one.... they're not universal, but they're not entirely unique either...

If they were hydraulic lines like on big bikes you can get loads of different colours - not for cables though.

Question : What length of aftermarket cables?
My husband is putting aftermarket 16 inch ape hangers on our 2007 HD night train. Anyone know what length throttle and clutch cables he will need? The risers are stock, at five inches. And he also currently has the stock drag bars on...

Answer:
Measure what he has then add the length of the new bars + a couple of inches and that is what size you need

Question : Do the clutch cables on Citroen Xantias snap regularly?
Do the clutch cables on Citroen Xantias snap regularly?

Answer:
After working with Citroens for many many years i have NEVER seen a Xantia clutch cable snap. It is always the plastic clip that attaches the cable to the clutch pedal, and yes it is a pig to change. You will need to lie on your back in the drivers footwell and look up towards the top of the clutch pedal. There is a long bolt that holds the pedal to its mounting bracket, you will need to remove this and take the pedal out in order to change the clip. It is not technically difficult to do, it is just very awkward. It can be done in 20 minutes if you know what to do, but if you don't it could take you 3 or 4 hours!

Question : Could anyone tell me if my clutch cables gone on my 406?
can anyone tell me if my clutch cable has snapped.I was driving along and wanted to change gear, when the clutch peddle went to the floor and i couldn't get it out of gear, i stopped the car and took it out of gear, now the pedal is at the floor, it moves up and down but you have to pulling back by hand, just nothing there, i got it going by starting it in 1st and just move up the gears as i rev it just to get me home. Now can anyone tell me is that the cable gone.

Answer:
Before you buy and start to replace the whole cable...it might just be the plastic arrowhead shaped Clip that joins the metal cable to the clutch pedal. This little plastic piece cost about 7 euro (5.5 pounds?) and can be replaced in 5 minutes.Wait, I will show you a photo of the clip for a 405 model, I will take a photo for you.....give me a little while, it's raining out there..ha ha.

Question : I think my clutch cables snapped is this easy to fix?

Answer:

Question : will the throttle and clutch cables from a carburated harley fit on a fuel injected harley?
for a softail

Answer:
Clutch cable...basically yes, if the two bikes are the same model and have stock bars, the clutch cable will work, if the bikes have different bars, chances are the cable lengths are different. Measure them to be sure...measurements are inboard side of threaded fitting at trans end to the beginning of the cable adjuster....then, other end of cable adjuster to the inboard side of lever end...if the measurements are the same on both cables, it will workThrottle cables....I can't say FOR SURE at the moment as I don't have any parts books at home, but I THINK FI & carb cables are different. I will try to check on this when I go to work tommorow.BUT...once again, you would need to measure them to be 100% sure, also, the angle of the adjusters must be the same, if different, they can hit the tank, not allow for proper routing, etc. T-Cable measurements are...housing length from carb/fi end to inboard side of cable adjuster....then measure cable throw, adjuster all the way in, cable pulled firmly through housing, measure length of cable protruding from housing, this is the "throw".If the cables WILL work, you WILL need a FACTORY service manual to do the job. You will need it to know the specific procedure for trans end cover and release mechanism removal and installation, clutch un-adjust and re-adjust procedures and torque specs & proper t-cable adjustments....you would be amazed at how many do-it-yourselfers don't know how to adjust throttle cables, I see misadjusted cables everyday that only allow for 1/2 throttle opening...I actually had a customer last month who's cables were so badly misadjusted, he was only getting 1/3 throttle, he picked up his bike while I was out and came back the next day and was amazed at the power his bike now had, he was actually now getting full throttle....when refilling the trans, use GEAR OIL...NOT HD's Syn3 or Formula +....use a quality 70/90 wt GEAR oil....or REDLINE HEAVY WEIGHT TRANS OIL if easily available, gear oil will make the trans run smoother, quieter, cooler and shift easier.....also be sure to lube the cable
