What happens when gas thieves get master keys?

Fair question. The answer is, if they can't get into your tank the 'normal' way, they just punch a hole in your tank with a screwdriver, or cut the rubber hose part of your filler tube. Think locking caps are expensive? - Try pricing a new tank or filler system! IMHO, all the locking caps do is serve to keep 'honest' people 'honest'.

This cap, #10508, did not work for me

The cap worked very well, however, it came with only ONE key. With three drivers in our home, I needed 2 more keys. First I tried all the local hardware stores and none of them had the blank. They noted that it was an unusual 2 sides key, and that I should check with a locksmith. They all said they could make a one sided key and that those blanks were common. Each one had their favorite locksmith, and I saw every one. They could not help me because of, "NO BLANK". Each one said that they come from China, and they don't want to pay for American blanks, so they use their own. Stant could not help me, nor could the supplier, Great Lakes Wholesalers. I had to return your cap and buy one from Pep Boys.

This is a great product and EVERYONE should use them! I had a full tank of gas siphoned out of my vehicle ($75) prior to getting this. Now I do not worry about it happening again!

Meh, its ok i guess...

Cheap, lock/tumbler is low quality and proves to be difficult at times to unlock with out two hands (tricky when theres some depth to the gas cap from the body like on a truck). Even though it seemed ready to snap apart at any time or the key break off inside, this cap held up for over 2 years before i opted to go back to the OEM cap. Never any problems with it sealing either which surprised me.

I have 3 of these and highly recommend them as a "deterrant". Yes, if someone is determined it can be broken off or they can stab the tank, but quick gas theft can be avoided if they can find a car with a non-locking gas cap (put a small sticker on your gas panel that states locking gas cap and the door may not be pried open, it may be passed up). Avoid pranks, vandalism, and gas theft with these. They are a little hard to figure out initially but simple after that. I have never had a dash light come on from these for leaking, on '09 Tacoma, '08 IS250, or '04 RX-330 (different type/model number). Excellent value.

replacement gas tank cap

Ordered this item to replace original gas cap on a 2006 Miata just out of warranty and the Check Engine light had been going on. I understand that poor seals may cause this and the manual confirmed. Took care of the problem at a nice low cost. This unit did not come with a retaining loop so I recycled the one from the original cap by drilling a hole of identical size in the handle of this cap. Good as new!

Don't Be Fuelish!


The Stant Locking Fuel Cap is an inexpensive way to save your expensive fuel gas from being siphoned out of your gas tank or having a damaged engine if the gas is tampered with. Completely filled, the gas tank on my truck costs upwards of 65 green ones! I don't doubt that with summer travel time coming the cost of fuel will continue to rise. Bad enough to pay for a tankful once to drive me where I want to go but having to pay a second time to replace a tankful of siphoned off gas that got me nowhere except back at the gas pump would be a big kick in the wallet, not to mention other places! I figure paying a one time cost of twenty dollars for the locking fuel cap to continuously safeguard my fuel is money well spent. Besides, if you sell your vehicle you can always put the old non locking cap back onand keep the locking one for your next ride. I also invested in the POP & LOCK Permanent Keyed Tailgate Lock and have been satisfied with both of them. ~ The Boss

With the price of gas

We decided that getting locking gas caps would be a good idea, especially when it is costing about [..] to fill up the Suburban. You can use the reference guide that is located at [...] to make sure you are getting the correct cap for your make and model of vehicle. With no end in sight for the price of gas, it is a wise investment to buy a good quality locking gas cap.

Haven't filled up since I got this, so I can't say how difficult unlocking is when you have to do it then and there. But no one's stolen any gas from me since I got it and that has been going on in my neighborhood recently.
