Editorial Review :
This battery and charging system monitor displays the condition of your battery and charging system instantly. It protects the engine computer and 12-volt accessories from damaging surges when jump starting or recharging. You can easily plug into the vehicle's cigarette lighter or power receptacle to monitor battery and charging system voltage. It has an LCD screen which displays the measured voltage with a bar graph to indicate battery charge level and it also has color-coded LEDs which quickly identify the battery's charge status. The head pivots for easy viewing and angle adjustment.

Best gadget for the best price
On the strength of very positive reviews in the Casita Travel Trailer forum, I bought one of these gadgets for the Christmas stocking of all the guys in my family. At $12,26 it is very affordable and simply works. Plug it into your 12V socket and turn on the ignition. It will instantly tell you the status of your battery. Start the engine and it will instantly tell you the status of your charging system. For boats, RVs, any vehicle where you need to carefully monitor your electrical system, this is the ticket.

Extremely Useful Diagnostic Tool
I was skeptical that something this inexpensive could be so useful. But once you plug this tester into your cigarette lighter, you'll see this this little device is a lot more intelligent than you might think.
With the car not running, the tester shows your battery voltage and status. A little battery icon tells you that the tester knows the car is not running, and that the LCD is displaying Battery Status. You can see the exact voltage on the LCD screen. Novices can simply look at the red, yellow, or green LEDs to quickly determine the health of your battery. To put your mind at ease, a little bar graph shows you the relative battery voltage.
Once you start the car, the little battery icon goes out and you see a little charging circle icon displayed - this tells you the device knows the car is running and that it is now displaying Charging Status. After you let the engine warm up, hold the engine at about 2500 RPM. The neat little LCD display now shows you the alternator's charging voltage. A green LED will satisfy you that the charging system is healthy, a yellow will caution you that your charging system might need some maintenance, and finally the red LED alerts you that your battery is being either under- or over-charged. The LCD display and graph indicates the exact nature of any problems.
IT'S VERY IMPORTANT to note that your cigarette lighter socket must be COMPLETELY CLEAN for this tester to be happy and useful. Clean out the socket good with a plastic (NON-METALLIC!) brush, then blow any debris with a quick blast from a can of compressed air (blowing from your mouth is NOT enough). Proper operation of this tester will display the LCD voltage being stable, or moving either consistently up OR consistently down. If the voltage fluctuates erratically, or if the devices turns itself on and off, clean the cigarette lighter socket, then re-seat the tester firmly in the socket. If the device still behaves erratically, that's a sign that your battery terminals may be loose.
Most garages will charge you $20 a pop for what this wonderful tester does for a few bucks in three minutes. Someone with advanced knowledge of cars can have way too much fun with this tester.

Great if it worked for more then 1 day
It looks cool and worked great, but it only worked for 1 day and that was it. Perhaps just like everything else in life; You may get a bad batch from time to time.

AWESOME FOR MY BOAT
This monitor replaces my old one which I gave away at our yacht club. Couldn't find another one at Walmart so got them here. This newer version displays voltage to two decimal places, which is useful on my 38' Sabre cruiser since I use it to tell what the relative electrical draw is when I turn on a particular light or device. I have an analog voltmeter on my electric panel, but this is far more useful. I also finally realized that this monitor does in fact have some mysterious circuitry which lets it judge the level of charge in the battery banks not only in the 10-12 volt range, when the engine and its alternator are off, but it can do this even while charging, when the voltage is running in the 13-14v range. Apparently its program detects whether or not the system is charging and judges the level of charge accordingly. And it does all this by just sampling the voltage in the boat "cigarette lighter". Its especially cheering that this automotive item works just fine for my boat since "Marine" equipment can be pricey. I bought three, one for the chart/electical area, one for my sleeping cabin and one for the cockpit so I can check battery use/ condition under sail when power can still be drawn down (GPS, Radar, radio),or in the evening when others may be using power (pumps, electic toilet, etc.) Drawing voltage down too far is bad for batteries and the worst case, not being able to start the engine, can be a disaster.

Simply does what it is suppose to do!
I have a diesel truck that has gone through 4 alternators and 6 batteries in the last 8 years. After the last alternator I wised up and starting looking for a way to monitor this BUT didn't want to put an A pillar of gauges in the cab. I found this read tons of good reviews and bought it. I have used it for a fews months now through the winter and this little gem work like a charm! Probably the best 13 dollars I have spent in my life! Think about it what can you spend 13 dollars on for a car or boat that will save you a towing fee or being stranded. Best money I have ever spent PERIOD! I have bought several to give to family!

Editorial Review :
Sylvania SilverStar Ultra Headlight is fashioned for brighter and whiter light. It has dual filament for both high beam and low beam. This operates with internal gas pressure which significantly reduces the rate of tungsten evaporation. Its analogous non-halogen incandescent lamp operates the same filament temperature with greater luminance and efficiency. This combined effect of higher pressure and the halogen cycle give halogen lamp much longer life.

Perform as advertized
Easy installation. Quite noticeable improvment over standard headlights. With failing night vision there were some roads I could no longer safely travel at night. Now they can be safely navigated. I am also able to to see road signs that were previously unreadable.

Sylvania 9003 Silverstar Halogen Headlights
These bulbs are superior in brightness than the stock bulb and make a huge difference for dark area night driving. Installation is as easy as a stock bulb.

Great Headlight
Best Headlight Ever! I'm unsure of the shorter bulb lifespan compared to standard bulbs but these are so SUPERIOR helping with night vision that their replacement will be with the same quality product.

Very Bright, Very White
These headlights are much whiter than a normal halogen headlight. I can see much better that I could with my stock headlights. The high beams are very impressive, which is great when some bozo driving toward you forgets to dim his high beams. If you like the SilverStars, you sill love the SilverStar Ultras.
Rating :
Much better than my old one
After I hit a 8X4 wood at night, I realized that my old hightlight is just too dim to be safe. This one works great and you can't put a price on safety...

High Performance Halogen Headlight
I bought these after watching the commercial but wasn't impressed by the amount of light from these headlights. I have a hard time seeing at night and thought this would make it much easier for me to drive with these halogen lights. I really saw no difference at all. Don't waste your money!

good lights
They are a little hard to install, but guess that depends on the kind of car you have. They should be changed at the same time, one of my lights is now a little brighter then the other. It gives good front and side light coverage.

So far, so good !
Great light. Great improvement. I have a Ford Tarsus 01 but I ended up buying the entire light/lens because of the lens being so dirty. Haven't installed them yet. It's really cold out. :]
Rating :
Not what I expected
From the reviews I expected a substantial improvement, but I can't tell the difference. And the "longer life" in the description is a lie, it says right on the box they won't last as long as normal bulbs.

So far so good but . . .
I am happy with the product but I could not install by myself. Cannot fault the product. Before you purchase you might want to see if you can remove the existing lamps. There was so little clearance that I could not bet my hand into the area to release the locking collar.

The "pit stop" feature lets you to stop for coffee or the paper without turning off the vehicle, while protecting it from being stolen. Also includes an easy to follow do-it-yourself instructional DVD and 24/7 web site support.

Piece of junk, no support
I agree with other negative posts. the tech support is a scam. Anyone putting in 4star ratings and talking about cheerful tech support agents has got to be a plant. I installed the unit on a Dodge Stratus with moderate success. Took about 6 hrs. It worked for a couple weeks, now just restarts every 5 seconds. I emailed tech support a couple weeks ago and never heard back. I have called tech support about a dozen times and get nothing, not even an answering machine. I'm sure my problem could be answered pretty quickly by a knowledgeable support person, but it appears that no such support exists. I'm tempted to rip it out and try to get my money back.

Great Remote Start for the Price
This is the second remote start that I have installed in our cars. For the price you can't go wrong. It took me about 4-5 hours to install but it is every bit worth it. It just takes time finding the correct wires and getting to them. The tech service help from Bulldog is great. They were very good at trouble shooting my issues and helping me along the way. The remote is easy to use and has great range, ~400ft. I would definitely recommend this product to others.

Installing a remote start...not that hard.
I installed this remote start into a 1994 GMC 3500 dump truck. The truck originally had no power door locks or windows and I recently installed a power door lock system. (Which I purchased on Amazon...see my other reveiw.) The main reason I installed the remote start was for the keyless entry feature.
Although this installation was pretty straight foward, you need some mechanical/electrical experience. It should not be attempted by a complete novice.
The included directions and DVD were very complete and easy to understand and follow. I was able to attach the remote start to my power door lock module simply and it works great. The remote start has never failed to start the engine. Very nice to have a warm truck when parked outside in the winter.
I've been using it for about 2 months now and for the money, it can't be beat.

BullDog RS1100 remote car starter
Bulldog RS1100 Remote Starter with Keyless Entry
I purchased 2 remote starters. The installation was cumbersome, mostly taking the dash apart and locating wires. The suggestion from Amazon was to add the pass lock and relays which I didn't need for one vehicle but needed the pass lock for the newer vehicle. We also purchased the t-harness from the site recommended by BullDog to aid in installation, it removes the guess work of locating most of the wires but not all. After install, during the first week, if the heater motor was set to high in one vehicle, or the auto headlight light function on the other was energized the remote starter would shut off and keep restarting for the default set by BullDog, three or four times. There is a current set limit of 10 amps which we solved one of two ways, connecting and setting tach mode on and connecting to the tack wire or to the 12V heavy gauge wire associated with the installation. Both methods seem to work. The signal is also strong and is able to go through 3 walls and also be used in a metal building, I don't know if the signal strength is typical of remote car starters. It works well and is American Made.

Great Light
Installed these the minute they arrived. The very white light the produce is great. I do 100-120 miles a day (night) round trip for work and in the winter much of it is in the dark. On many of the back roads there is often oncoming traffic. Although not as bright as the high beams, these provide adequate light to spot the local wildlife w/o blinding the oncoming cars with the brights.

ultra bulbs
The bulbs I purchased are installed and working great. So glad I found them on Amazon
Rating :
Great bulbs!
These bulbs produce a nice, crisp white light and provide visibility that is far superior to the stock headlight bulbs. I have used the standard Silverstar bulbs in the past with great results, and wasn't sure that these Ultras would be better, but they are. They seem slightly brighter than the original Silverstars. As for longevity, as long as they are installed properly (DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS!) they have lasted over 2 years. Overall, a great pair of bulbs if you like to see where you are going.
Rating :
shocking short life for this set of lights (5 months with minimal usage)
put them on a Honda Odyssey, the bulbs has terrible shocking short life for this set of lights (5 months with minimal usage) for use just about 20 minutes/day. That is a total of 50 hours for the life of one bulb although I'm extremely carefully wearing a plastic gloves when installed them. Be aware and avoid these lights if you don't want to change the light after 50 hours usage

SilverStar is Great
The SilverStar Ulra Headlights allow me to see further ahead and increases the side vision as well. It's great in the rain when you really need to see. I feel saver that I am able to see more in the dark.

Questions & Answers
Question : 200 or 400 amp electrical service?
I am remodeling a 5000 sq foot home that currently has 200 amp service. My contractor says we need to upgrade to 400 amps because we will have 2 heatpumps and one ac unit and about 75 recessed lighting fixtures when we're done. The developer says 200 amp service is fine for this load. Who is right?
Answer:
Your contractor. While the 200 service might squeak by, it's far better to err on the coservative side. That 400 is one hell of a lot cheaper than a new house!

Question : Electrical question. I have an outlet on our home right outside our back door..how can I tell what amp it is?
I look in my breaker box and I find breakers that say, numbers like 50 (two breakers linked together) 100 (also two 100 breakers linked together-main) a couple 30's and 20's and a fifteen amp or two breaker... now people keep asking me things like do you have a 200 amp breaker? HUH!?!?... nope looked in there don't see a breaker that says 200? I am told we probably don't have enough breaker than? We do have a dryer? Aren't they supposed to take 200?.... could this be why it takes twice as long to dry clothes.... All of this is related to the fact that I have a relative with a camper that is plugged into it on an outside outlet on our wall and my light bill was 300... ugh...
Answer:
It sounds like you are confusing voltage with amperage.Your outdoor outlet is most likely a 110 volt circuit on a 20 or 15 amp breaker. Plug in a lamp and turn your circuit breakers off one at a time until the lamp goes off. The number on the breaker tells you the maximum safe amperage of the circuit.Your dryer is 220 volt and should be on a 30 amp breaker. (Any breaker greater than 20 amps will probably be 220 volt. Your electric water heater is another candidate for a 30 amp breaker. The stove and furnace are most likely on 50 amp breakers. The 20 amp breakers should be for the kitchen, bath and garage and any place where you will have a GFI. The camper is your culprit for the large electric bill. The clothes taking a long time to dry is most likely a bad heating element in the dryer.

Question : Slightly over the amp limit for an electrical switch? Will something bad happen?
Okay, so in my car I am going to hook up a light, problem is the only switch I can connect it to is going to be 6-8 amps over the power limit that the manufacturer suggests. The important thing is that it's not going to be used much at all, or for long periods of time, infact pretty rarely. The wiring will be sufficient to hold all the amps, but like I said the switch will be just out of range.Being that it is going to be pretty rarely used, and it is only 6 - 8 extra amps, what would be the possible damage or issue, if any, and how long would it take for these problems to begin (in general)?(Please don't say to add a new switch that can take the extra current, as I am aware of that, but I would prefer not to because the switch I want to use is a part of a self-contained switch panel and I would rather have all my accessories on the control panel first before deciding to add switches elsewhere. I kind of want to find an "easy way out" before I have to make things more difficult

Question : Electrical outlet tester, what does it mean when all three lights are lit? the red and yellow (orange)?
I have a plug in electrical tester that indicates correct wiring, when plugged into most outlets the left two yellow lights are lit, however I have this one round outlet for a 20 amp circuit for an airconditioner, when I plug it in all three lights are lit
Answer:
I think you are plugging into a 220v outlet. You should never get all three lights on those plug in outlet testers lit up at the same time. Hot and neutral reverse should light up the red on the left and the middle yellow. I think you are measuring two 'hots' which is why all the lights are on. You say it is a round outlet, does it look like a normal outlet except on of the vertical slits also has a small parallel slit off the side? That is probably 220v to run that AC.

Question : Electrical work in finishing basement?
I'm finishing my basement and will have about 17 outlets. I plan to run 12 AWG and use 20 amp breakers. Are 2 circuits the way to go? The room is about 450 SF and there will be lighting as well.
Answer:
Per the National Electrical Code, each duplex outlet should be calculated at 1800 watts (or 1.5 amps at 120 volts). Since a 20 amp circuit should be derated to carry a sustained load of not more than 16 amps, you can put 10 outlets per 20 amp circuit so 2 circuits would be OK if you only have 3 or 4 light fixtures in addition. If you have more lighting (say, track or recessed down-lighting with multiple lamps) you might need a third circuit. Also, if you are going to have any appliance like a refrigerator, dehumidifier or microwave connected, each should have its own dedicated circuit. If you've got a computer connection, that would also be best served by a dedicated outlet or at least one that is not on the same circuit with any motor loads.

Question : How many can lights can I put on a 15 amp circuit in MN?
HI I need to know if anyone knows the MN electrical code for how many can lights I am allowed on one circuit using 14-2 with 15amp. also I would like to put some in my soffit outside, any type of can required for this? Thanks.
Answer:
Just keep the total load less than 80% of the circuit and you should be fine, even Dave Jacobson would not have a problem with that, he is a fun inspector to deal with, if you are borderline will depend on the inspector, if you are over it will not fly. In the 2008 code there is this nice little deal about all electrical equipment installed outdoors, has to be rated either for damp, or wet locations, even gfci outlets in an in use cover, and in a house have to be of the "tamper resistant type" . If you watch those things, even good old Dave won't have a problem with it, but I bet he still looks at every breaker in your panel, the label I mean... Good luck..

Question : Help with cost/need to install new electrical panel box (from 100 to 200 amp)?
Hi everyone,I am adding a kitchenette to my mother's basement while I save money for a house. Right now we have a 100 amp electrical panel, and I am wondering if we need to upgrade it to 200 amps. Here is a total list of what we will have hooked up to the box:2 refrigerators2 ranges2 dishwashers2 1000 Watt Microwaves1 AC Unit (for a 1500 sq ft home)2 TV/Entertainment centers2 computersmisc household electrics (lights, phones, etc)...the heating is via gasI had one electrician (that owes my brother money... money will go to my brother) tell me we needed to upgrade the box, and he asked $2,000 to include the permit, 50 feet of 8 gauge wire, a 200 amp box, and labor wiring the box. This does not include running wire from the utility to my house.1st: Do I need to upgrade the box?2nd: Is $2,000 appropriate for this job? Thanks for any suggestions!
Answer:
Yes you need to upgrade.$2,000 in the proper range but I would question some of the things he lists. 1st: what is the 8 gauge wire for? You need 3/0 for 200amps In most areas the power company supplies power to the outside of your house (the weather head) or if you have underground service up to the meter. You are responsible to purchase the meter pan, the wire and the weather head on the outside of your house. The elect.co. supplies the meter itself, but they just plug it in to the existing meter box.2nd:Does the price include wiring the new kitchen? If it does that's an excellent price.3rd: Is this guy licensed, do you trust him? The reason I ask is that the work needs to be installed by a licensed contractor or power company won't accept the installation, and if he was so far off on the wire size I seriously doubt his knowledge.I don't mean to insult your brothers friend but you should clarify these questions with him before letting him do the work. Hope I was a little help.

Question : Sears Lawnmower just stopped...no electrical, see description?
I was mowing grass with a 15HP Sears Model CV15S Lawn Tractor at normal full rpm...and then it just died. It has not started ever since. There is not even any power at the amp light on the dash when I turn the key...just nothing! The battery is good and the fuel system is good. It has got to be electrical, but I don't know what. Fuse? Starter switch? Operator presence switch? Has anyone had this problem before?
Answer:
Could be any of those things, and a number of others. Trying things at random is a waste of time. You have get out your voltmeter and start tracking down the problem. If you have a wiring diagram, it will make life a lot easier, but you can accomplish a lot without it. Start at the ignition switch. Does the voltage come in? Does it show up on the output when the switch is engaged? From there, follow the wire forward or backward to the next measurement point. It can be a real pain without the wiring diagram. But sometimes you get lucky and find the problem quickly. If it were me, I'd invest an hour in trouble shooting before springing for the cost of a manual.Good luck.
