Questions & Answers
Question : Can a broken speed sensor cause my 4 runner to run sluggish?
Hello my 92 4runner has the speed sensor broken. Im wondering could this make my car run sluggish? I hit the gas alot harder to go than on my other 4 runner. We just bought this one with the sensor broken. Had it checked and it is the speed sensor. I just put new spark plugs and alternator when I bought it but still runs sluggish. Could it be the sensor throwing my acceleration off?

Answer:
If the speed sensor is broken then it has to be replaced in order for the vehicle to work properly. Giving it a tune-up won't make a difference if there's a faulty sensor. You can try taking the sensor off of your other 4runner and try that. But other than that you need to replace that broken sensor.

Question : Why does my car hesitate on acceleration?
My car hesitates really badly on acceleration. It is a 99 vaux corsa. It has had alot of work done luckily all under warranty including a new crank shaft sensor, idle control valve, mass air flow sensor, new air & oil filters, throttle body repair, oil changes. My EGR valve seems to be working fine and the lambda sensor seems to be fine. I have also changed the fuel filter and used a number of bottles of fuel system cleaners and catacleaners. Is there anything else it could be other than being a crap car?

Answer:
hesitation is usually from a lean condition.low fuel pressure or vacum leak somethind to make fuel mixture lean.

Question : will a bad coolant sensor cause bad acceleration?
ok im thinking about buying this 1997 mistubishi eclipse gst. the dealer is selling it for 1200. i took the car for a test drive, and the acceleration was pretty bad.. and on top of that, the exhaust was blowing smoke.. his mechanic said it just needed another coolant sensor. will a bad coolant sensor do that? they said it didnt have a bad head gasket, so idk what could be causing the leaks.none of the power options work, the ac nor heat doesnt work, it needs paint, and it needs 3 windows, and the power steering pump flows out the cap. and it needs rims and tires..... thinking about makin it my project car. let me know what you think about the problems any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
they are definitely trying to screw you over.i wouldn't buy the car for more than $100. it would be a great project car cause it need a lot of work and a lot of moneythe head gasket is definitely the acceleration problem

Question : Does a knock sensor affect acceleration/rpm in a truck?
everytime i start my car, my rpm is at 600, instead at 500, is that bad?

Answer:
Acceleration - maybe... depends on why it's knocking.RPM - doubtful.

Question : can a dirty mass air flow sensor effect acceleration?
sometimes it works fine but then other times it takes alot of effort to get it to go over 20 mph--maf showed up on diagnostic at advance auto parts

Answer:
Yes. If the MAF sensor is dirty then it is sending the wrong signals to the engine about what the conditions are and will cause the engine to appropriate power incorrectly. It will also affect gas mileage which means getting it fixed is financially worth it.

Question : Can a bad oxygen sensor cause a miss on acceleration?
I have a 1996 Ford Windstar that misses on acceleration ONLY after the car becomes very warmed up. I was told the code was for a bad oxygen sensor, but which one could it be? There are two at the first converter and two on the last converter

Answer:
Yes.If you have a bad oxygen sensor it will do that because the computer will go all wacko on it because it can't read the flow of oxygen through your exhaust system. If you took it to a real auto mechanic shop like were i work at our computer will tell you exactly which sensor is bad. So i would tkae it to a high end mehcanic shop and get it on a computer there.

Question : What was the name of the show on TLC or Discovery about force=mass x acceleration?
The show had to do with a female boxer and a male subject who punched an object filled with sensors; as they struck the object, the computer would then read the data. In the end, the female boxer won since she was able to gain more acceleration. Thanks....

Answer:
It was Fight Science. But to say she won because she had more acceleration is inaccurate considering she also has less mass and F = ma. I know what episode you're talking about and their use of force has irked me. A more accurate measurement in this case would be the kinetic energy, which can be measured as 0.5*m*v^2. Since her punch was faster, she compensated for her lesser mass through her higher velocity, which is squared to achieve the total kinetic energy.

Question : When measuring acceleration using dataloggers what type of wave is transmitted to the sensors?
What does the first sensor measure about the trolley's motion? What does the second measure?

Answer:
The question has too much and not enough information at the same time. "what type of wave is transmitted to the sensors" basicaly means what is the acceleration with respect to time(ie linear, parabolic, etc)To get these values, collect your variables and insert them into the governing equations.A quick physics search for acceleration gives:http://hyperphysics.info/?cx=partner-pub-6503468025187103%3Akxag2b-tx0r&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=ISO-8 859-1&q=accelerationThe third link will give you the equations that relate distance, velocity and acceleration.Hope that helps!

Question : ::::::Missing O2 Sensors:::::?
I seen a diagram that showed two O2 sensors one before and after the catalytic and two on the engine .....when I bought the car last month I remember seeing two brand new O2 sensors in the box laying on the seat...today I peaked under the car and didn't see the 2 O2 senors on the exhaust like the diagram...and my car is only getting about 12 MPG ...... I've changed fuel lines and fuel filter, pump and screen had tank cleaned, 8 fuel injectors, oil and filter, air filter, proper tire psi, practiced good acceleration and braking, but no change in MPG at all and I did all these changes in the same week but no change ....my car is rated at 17/23 mpg. ....1995 Oldsmobile Aurora 189,000. Now I already took into consideration losing a few MPG due to age millage and not trusting factory ratings but missing 2 out of four O2 sensors could that be my problem? And how could I fix that if I can't find the wires for the sensors also I can't get ahold of the guy I bought it from

Answer:
do you have a thermostat?heat regulator for the motor? if so and your running around 195 deg.f then you need to start eliminating ideas.you have 2 o2 sensors you stated now if you need to more, youll find the wiring harness for them under there. even if there is no hole for the o2 in the exhaust youll find loose connectors. if you dont you dont need them.your check engine is probably on even with new os sensors. resistance readings are out of bounds cause the unburned carbon, so either engine is in cold loop or it might have a limp mode. in limp mode, something isnt functioning so it goes into like a cold start function running rich. gonna need to get diag.

Question : dodge viper smoking head gaskets replaced and o2 sensors?
98 dodge viper gts. just had head gaskets replaced. Dropped pan, changed oil three times to flush. cut heads .005 to clean up. driven it about 15 miles and it seems to smoke a little under hard acceleration, just at take off. It appears to be oil smoke, any ideas? will this go away. Car runs great, smoke is intolerable.greg....even though the car has only 10k miles on it?

Answer:
Could be burning the oil off of the piston , from when the head job was done , should clear up soon.
