Just pop them in - Don't know why I waited

This replacement is a no-brainer. The supports went in really easily. The hardest part was figuring out how to release the latches that attaches the support to the hood and chassis. After a minute fiddling with a screwdriver I figured it out then it took only minutes to replace both supports.

You will need a stick (or another person) to hold the hood open while replacing the supports, which in my case was no problem as I had been carrying a stick around for whenever I needed to hold the hood open anyway.

The other reviews aren't kidding. It takes less than two minutes to swap out your old hood supports with these--all you need is a small flat-head screwdriver. On a Grand Cherokee, just pry up the retaining clips on the old ones and then snap these new ones over the existing ball joints on the vehicle. Done and done!

I got this for my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, and it fit perfect. You only need a screwdriver to pry out a small clip. My hood only wouldn't hold up in cold weather, so I only replaced one strut, and that was plenty.

Coil Spring Compressors

Worked as advertized. Were a little difficult to get in the springs I was working on (Jeep Liberty), but I should have did more research on my part. Very well made product. They will last a lifetime.

Best and safest spring compressor ever used.

For the low purchase cost of this product I had worries about how well they would be built and how they would last. When I opened the carton to examine I was surprised at how robust they were made and when we used them I had confidence in their holding/gripping ability. I felt safe in the use of them and with the other manufacuturers pair that I threw away I never really felt as safe. Do I recommend them for the home mechanic, you bet I do and I will buy another pair if and when they ever wear out.

This tool is a beast

I bought this tool for a strut replacement that I was not ready to shell out $500 in labor for. The tool performed exactly as expected. The lesson learned was to plan tool placement on the springs so that you can use a ratchet for the tightening and loosening. The wrench worked fine but at 1/2 turn at a time it took a loooong time to tighten.

They compress! Wow!

They work pretty much as advertised. I used them on a full 4 strut install, and these compressors never seized or jammed, nor were they ever too difficult to use with hand tools. I wouldn't say they were a joy to work with (only because compressing springs is rarely a joyful business) but they certainly didn't add to the frustration of the install.

Honestly, if you're considering cheaping out and going with a less expensive brand, don't; just get these. This is not an area you want to cheap out on - dealing with jammed compressors is not fun.

I got this for my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, and it fit perfect. Besides an ornary bolt, it was easy to install and took about 5 minutes. You do need a special star shaped bit to unscrew the bolt. My liftgate only wouldn't hold up in cold weather, so I only replaced one strut, and that was plenty.

Don't know why I waited

I lived with the tailgate on my Jeep Grand Cherokee dropping on my head for years whenever it gets cold out, until it dropped on my wife's head, knocked her down and hurt her hip when she hit the ground.

I got an ultimatum to have it fixed, but didn't want to pay the dealers $$$ to replace the support arms. I found the replacements on Amazon, read the reviews, found that it was not a difficult replace and invested the $40 to get the new supports. I should have bought a T-40 Torx bit from Amazon too, but got one at a local auto parts store for a couple bucks. It will help if you have a stick (or another person) available to force the tailgate fully open while you are replacing the supports, to get them aligned before inserting the screws.

What a difference. They went on really easily and although I can't recall how the tailgate opened and closed when new, the new supports actually allow the tailgate to almost pop open, and forces me to pull the tailgate down to get it to close. Now I need to be careful not to have the tailgate hit me on the chin when it comes open.....

While I was at it, I bought two Hood support arms and installed them too. Now I can get rid of that stick I have been carrying around for a couple years.

I can't believe I waited so long to replace the supports. For $60-70 and 30 minutes easy work, I fixed both problems that have been nagging me for years, and saved hundreds of dollars I would have had to pay a dealer.

Well Worth It!!!

The installation was very fast and easy. I bought this both for the rear hatch and the hood. They work great and I ended up saving over $100 bucks if I would of taken it to the dealership. It was well worth it!

I ordered some parts and decided to see where they were inroute. The schedule said they were delivered today (jan. 4) I went outside and there they were! Ha Ha! I thought I heard a truck running around. The UPS men know me, and just dropped the package over the fence. Fine service etc. Now to see if the parts fit and work o.k. I will let you know if not.

PERFECT!

These worked perfectly for my 2000 Celica. Way cheaper than the $400 Toyota was going to charge me for the parts alone. And VERY easy to install. Just make sure you pay attention when you are taking the old ones off as to where the bottom piece goes..to the front or back. We installed it backwards at first so they didn't work and I was upset until I remembered that the support went to the back of the the 2 bolts that attach to the inside of the trunk. Felt stupid, but when we switched them around to the correct position, they worked perfectly!

Celica Rear Hatch lift Supports -

Just purchased my Toyota Celica ... and the supports were shot. I ordered these supports from amazon and they were (pardon the pun) AMAZIN! LOVED THEM and they are absolutely great.

WARNING - Before you start

Whatever you do, DO NOT try and remove the top swivel bolt without first cutting the arm away as shown in the video. Your only chance of getting the swivel bolt out in one piece is to use a 6-sided (NOT 12) 11mm box wrench. Using a lighter to heat up the bolt to melt the thread-locker is also a must.

If you do not do it this way -- like me (opps!), you will have to drill out the bolt.

It's not the end of the world, but it makes what should be a 15-20 minute repair job take about 1 hour.

Procedure for Drilling out Swivel Bolt

[1] Center punch the flat section of bolt that remains after you cut off the strut

[2] Use small 5/64" drill bit to start the hole and assure dead center, only drill about 1/8" of an inch with this bit

[3] Next move up to 5/32" drill bit, and slowly drill all the way through the bolt (about 5/8")

[4] Now move up to the final 17/64" drill bit, slowly drilling out the entire bolt to the end

If done properly, the residual bolt material will basically fall out and leave you just the threads. However, you might need needle nose pliers to pull some remaining pieces out

Lastly, have a 8 X 1.25 metric tap on hand to chase or dress the threads should it be necessary

Install new struts as per video.

These lift gate arms are better than the original

My 2001 Jeep Cherokee Lift Gate arms could barely hold it up and it seemed to get worse in cold weather to the point where it would come down right in the middle of unloading something. I bought a pair of these based on a previous good review and was pleased to find that everything that was said turned out to be true. They installed very easily (<10 minutes) and they are way better than the originals. I used to have to basically lift the gate all the way up myself and all the old arms did was hold it up. Now, I open it about 1/4 of the way and the new StrongArm pistons push it open on their own. If you are having lift gate issues on a Jeep Cherokee, these are definitely your solution.

1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport

I was amazed at the price for these lifts. They were on sale plus an extra $5 off for two, plus free shipping. I couldn't touch that price at any of the local auto parts stores for poorly made lifts.

They were very easy to install and have been working perfectly in subfreezing temperatures for over a month. The OEM lifts lasted for about 8 years and failed to hold the gate up when it was cold. I should have replaced them a couple of years ago but could not bring myself to spend the $ for a good set of lifts. These lift supports are worth it so far and if they don't work out, they were still worth a try for the price!

Very happy with StrongArm lifts

Installed these on a 1999 Jeep XJ Cherokee in about 20 mins start to finish and they work as well or better than the factory lifts that came on the Jeep.

Same part number fits both right and left sides, you simply have to flip the upper bracket over on one of them with your finger to have it fit the other side.

I will certainly buy this brand again when needed.

Standard shipping was very fast and product was delivered in perfect condition.
