DORMAN 425-176 DORMAN STEERING SHAFT
Customer Review :
Dorman Intermediate steering shaft.
I bought this shaft to solve a "Clunk" problem in my 2005 Sierra pickup. This shaft was designed by Dorman to replace the shaft that is reportedly the cause of the clunking noise when the GM vehicle goes over a rough road like gravel. In any case it was easy to install and solved my problem. I have said it before and I will say it again that Amazon is a pleasure to deal with. They have always been more than fair in our transactions and deliveries.

TOOK CARE OF MY PROBLEM.
I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE, FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS IT HAD THIS CLUNKING NOISE IN THE STEARING LINKAGE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH SOME OF THE GMC VEHICLES. THEY LUBRICATED THE STEARING SHAFT WHICH CAUSED THE NOISE TO GO AWAY FOR SEVERAL WEEKS ONLY. I CALLED A AUTO TALK SHOW ON THE RADIO AND THE HOAST TOLD ME HIS WIFES AVALANCHE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. HE TOLD ME THAT HE INSTALLED THE AFTER MARKET DORMAN INTERMEDIATE STEARING SHAFT AND IT ELIMINATED THE NOISE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THE SHAFT, INSTALLED IT IN ABOUT 45 MINUTES AND IT TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT,IM VERY SATIFIED, TOOK CARE OF MY PROBLEM.

Terrific Item !!!
I would recommend this intermediate shaft to anyone. It's an easy bolt in replacement, took no more than 1/2 hour to install. The design seems much stronger than the original and the steering rattle and loose feeling is completely gone. The good price and Amazon's free shipping make a real bargain.

I should have done this months ago!!
This replaces the intermediate steering shaft in my 2003 Silverado. These trucks are notorious for binding and popping because the original shaft doesn't retain the lubrication to keep it quiet. This shaft is much simpler and stays quiet and solid. This is a very simple to install shaft and it is only held in place by two bolts. One bolt is under the hood next to the exhaust manifold (let it cool off more than I did). The other bolt is under the dash and you will have to lie on your back to reach it (clean the floormat off better than I did). Aside from the singed knuckle and the gravel in my hair, this was pretty painless as far as vehicle repairs go. This was an affordable and easy fix to a very annoying problem. My only regret was not doing this sooner! Happy Motoring!

Customer Review :
Good, but not instant response
Works as advertised nice to be able to program as needed. HOWEVER, there is a delay in the mechanism so it does not have the 'instantaneous' response of the headunit buttons. Otherwise great product.

good to be able to use my steering wheel controls again
The delay from the time when you press a button and it's recognized by the headunit can sometimes be irritating. Especially with volume control. I sometimes find it easier to reach to the headunit and turn the knob than to use the steering wheel buttons. Part of the cause of this delay I think is because the unit is still sort of universal and can be used on a number of brands. But it's good to be able to program all buttons to whatever you want. I now have "mute" and "seek" buttons and think I might use the volume buttons for something else other than volume..

Steering controls worked perfectly.
Easy installation and all steering wheel controls worked perfectly on my 2008 Ford F-150 Limited with my Alpine sound processor.

Pretty good....pretty good
I was happy to find this product on Amazon at a much lower cost than in audio shops. This adapter works well with my JVC; it's great being able to use my steering wheel controls with an after-market stereo.
I really appreciate the fact that the adapter remembers the settings, so if your battery is disconnected, there is no need to re-program this adapter. My only complaint, after a year of ownership, is the slight delay experienced between when you push a button on the steering wheel control and the desired action of the stereo.

Question : Looking for a Ford master tech help WITH A 1997 AREOSTAR?
hi i am having a very hard time trying to help my friend out with his 1997 areostar. I am a marine technition with oem certs in out bord systems lol no power steering pullys on an outboard. The reason i say power steering pully is because i spent my friday night/sat morning replacing a pully and pump, its a 3.0 model and my friend was certain it was the p/s pully because it was squealing but when he sprayed lube directly into the center of the pully it "instantly stoped the noise". So after wrongly pressing a replacement pully onto a new pump shaft and cracking it in five diffrent places with a rental special tool from a local auto parts store and MANY bleeding knuckles later . I managed to buy a new pully and got it pressed onto the shaft, HE removed the old lines and installed them back to the new pump. engine idled good no squeaks took it for a road test, no squealing but noticed the pully had a slight wobble. With the belt still hooked up despite my advice he press pully noise back

Question : Steering Rack Replacement 95 Acura Legend?
I have a power steering leak and the mechanic said I will need to replace my rack and pinion. He quoted me $900, five for parts and four for labor. However, I think I have found the part I need here for 250: http://www.car-stuff.com/carparts/acuralegend19921995a1cardonea1261763353789.htmlWill I need any additional parts? And is four hundred a reasonable estimate for labor? I know labor costs very from place to place, but there must exist some sort of ballpark figure for this type of work. Oh, and how long until I completely destroy the suspension system if I do not get the repair right away and continue to add power steering fluid? I paid six bills for the car; I don't want to put more work into it than its worth.
Answer:
The kit on attached link seems ok,try to arrange more quotes for the labor. Some stop leak could help for some time.http://www.google.com/products?sourceid=navclient&rlz=1T4SKPB_enMU311MU312&q=p%20steering%20sto p%20leak&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wf

Because most employers don’t have tools and mechanic with out tools is worthless because they have no way to get work done on a project.A technician must complete at least one of the A.S.E. exams and prove they have credible work experience of two or more years to receive a certification in a desired are. Credible training or experience can be from 2 years of formal training at school, trade school, or a collage. Technicians also have to pass the test once every five years to ensure there up to date with the constant change in technology (career overview.com/diesel mechanic and technician career overview)Most sops nice places to work depending on how clean, noisy, lighting, ventilation, and many small factors like sometimes you have on the road job where u have to repair a truck on a highway so it can make it to a shop in all seasons. While working you need to be physically fit to lift heavy parts and set them on to jacks and hoists, and may receive small cuts, bruises, burns so proper safety should be taken first. Technicians are always handling greasy tools, parts and also stand or have to lie down on funny positions to get the job done right and fast. Most technicians will work about a forty to fifty hours a week depending on how busy they are and if they have an emergency repair. Many shops have made it to where they may be working on trucks 24 hours a day to help out the customers, with this that makes the job employment ever greater.( careers.stateuniversity.comDiesel-Mechanic)Because many experienced technicians are employed by truck fleet dealers and independent repair shops receive a commission related to the labor costs charged to the customer, weekly earnings depend on the amount of work completed. Beginners usually earn from 50 to 75 percent of the rate of skilled workers and receive increases as they become more skilled. Most technicians are starting to work around the clock because of the demand. There usually working for truck and bus firms and are members of labor unions .The common wages for a diesel truck and bus mechanic, including incentive pay, were $21.20 in May 2008. After graduating high school, I spent 4 years as an apprentice, auto mechanic, and then I branched over into heavy equipment and eventually trucks. What are your required to do? A diesel mechanic is expected to diagnose and be able to overhaul a diesel engine top to bottom, refitting new parts where needed. Is it what u expected it would be, or different? You get a lot dirtier working on diesels than other engines and they smell a lot different. What’s the shop environment like? Shops are either very noisy when a few engines are running, or as quiet as a library, when they are being worked on.What wages do you make? Some shops are now paying $30.00 or more per hour for mechanics. When I retired I made $18.00What’s your favorite part of your job? Every other mechanic I know loves the sound when they start up an engine that they have repaired, it's the biggest thrill. . I enjoyed the work, and it was a great feeling to know you could fix anything that moved, or moved other things with great power.Did u go to school for it, also how did u pay for school? I did not pay for schooling, it was part of the apprenticeship program, but expensive tools must be bought along the way. At retirement, mine had a replacement value of $20,000.00
