RIDE-RITE KIT

Customer Review :

Firestone Ride Rite Air Springs work great!

Received the Firestone 2245 Ride-Rite Kit on 7-28-2010. It took 2.5 hours to install and everything went very well. Immediately tested the air springs and they function great. They were installed on a 2003 Toyota Tundra SR5 which was getting a little spongy with any load. The Pickup has a cap and it rides well empty. Moderate loads had been spongy and heavy loads would bottom out. The air springs really tightened it up at 15-20 pounds. Took it for a longer ride today - railroad tracks, bumps and other road irregularities did not shake the truck like it would before. No bottoming out and stability was greatly improved. I also noticed last night that my high beam headlights were no longer too high and they actually lighted up the road in front of me better.

fairly easy install. works well

I purchased this kit for my 2004 tundra to improve ride when pulling a loaded car trailer. tundras have a great ride when unloaded and a really great ride with a few hundred pounds in the bed. But my personal thought is that they(pre-07 models) are fairly dangerous when towing heavy equipment due to small brakes, soft springs, light weight of the vehicle, narrow stance. Previously, if I had any tongue weight on the truck while driving, any bump would cause the rear end to get sloppy and raise the frontend causing some floating.

The install went well. although initial writeups didn't comment on drilling the frame, it wasn't too difficult(just be careful of brake lines and cables). The kit was missing a few nuts so I had to use my own. Good thing I had several spares onhand. Double-check that you have all of the necessary parts before beginning. I routed my fill valves through the licence plate upper bolts in the rear bumper. I had to do some extra drilling in ot hte plastic mount and the brass nut did strip on one side so be careful if you do this. the result of licenceplate mounting is it keeps things clean and easy access to adjust pressure when needed.

I've tested the airbag setup twice since install with two different results. The first test up a freeway in to the mountains showed improved control of the trailer(allowing more tongue weight w/out rearend spring sag). The trailer stopped controlling the truck when hitting minor bumps and high speed curves. The 2nd test run was again in the mountains but included extreme winding switchback roads and very uneven paving. The vehicle still caused some tongue bounce in this environment. but the frontend didn't float as before. I may have had too much tongue weight for the amount of air in the bags at the time. It's something that will require some fine tuning of tongue weight vs air bag weight. In both scenarios, city driving was much more controlled than before the air bag install.

overall I feel much more control of the vehicle and trailer which results in a much safer towing environment.

Shipping Review of Energy Suspension 16.3116G

Shipping Review of this Product.

I got my product, the Energy Suspension 16.3116G Black Hyper-Flex Front Control Arm Bushing Set. through the mail and its a let-down. The package, a carton box was torn all over, when i took the product out. the plastic seems to have been open once before. staplers were already out of place and it seems to be missing a grease tube.

This Product came with:
1. 1 pair of Lower Arm Compliance bushing
2. 1 pair of Lower Arm Arm Bushing
3. 3 grease tubes
4. 1 Installation Instruction

I could be wrong, but I believe since i have 2 pair of bushings i should get 2 pairs of grease tubes.

If anyone from the company is reading this. please send me the missing grease tube or correct me. Thank You.

I've yet to install it on my 2001 Honda Civic Coupe EX. When I do I'll write a review about that.

The mechanic would not install them

The mechanic would not install them because they couldn't verify the quality and the car could be unsafe or some crap. Maybe the mechanic was pulling one over on me, because they recommended installing brand new control arms with the bushing already installed. I guess these Energy Suspension bushings are for the do-it-you-self-er. I read great reviews from Civic message boards. Oh well, $590 later, I returned these bushings back to amazon.

OK

They should give more grease. Cost me another $150 for labor to replace these bushings.

Question : How much does it cost to have a door hinge replaced on a 94 Ford Explorer?
How much can I expect to pay a body shop to replace my door hinge on a 94 Ford Explorer. The door is sagging and is now misaligned so much that it wont shut without lifting up the door. I was going to try and repair the door myself but it requires grinding off the old hinge bolt bushings and removing the door (which is heavy and not a one man job). Any advice would be most helpful and if I can get an idea of what this is going to run me. Thanks.

Answer:
You can adjust the hinge on the body and the door by justloosening the bolts and re-aligning the door. Are you sureyou need a new hinge?

One option is to purchase a tool called a Nut Splitter and remove the nuts in that manner. Careful use of an acetelyne torch will give the same results.

Question : Anybody know an easy way to realign the body on a Jeep Wrangler after replacing body mount bushings?
I recently replaced my body mount bushings with poly bushings, but after I finished, I noticed that the body was slightly farther forward on the right side than on the left when looking at the rear bushings (I can tell because the metal on top is showing on one, but not the other). I can't seem to get the body to move enough to fix this, anyone know any tricks to make this easier?

Answer:
i actually did this before on a jeep. and used a car rack to lift the body and moved the chassis in the right place under then lowered the body on and tighten the bushings down

Question : Will my 95 geo prism make it on a 9 hour drive to canada without crapping out?
My car has 157,000 miles on it right now. The body is in good condition with new tires, but it needs motor mount bushings. It works good but this worries me. I am driving to Canada and it will be 9 hours there and 9 hours back. I don't want to get stranded, what is your opinion?

Answer:
I don't know depends on how your car's been acting lately. Has it been acting up lately?

Question : where can i buy a body mount bolt for my 1986 chevy c10 p/u?
i have the new bushings but i heard the bolts break easily so i want to buy new ones

Answer:
Go to the parts counter at your GM dealer. Tell them you need body mount bolts for an '86 1/2 ton and they either have them in stock or can get them for you. Something like this it's best to go with the real deal and not take a chance on hardware store bolts.

Question : do i need to align the chasis on my 80 camaro?
i just put in new bushings but the bolts are half the diameter of the bushing shells. so.. i dont know if the body its square to the chassis at all.

Answer:
Are you talking the the body bushing/cushion located between the frame and body located right under the front of the door? And are you using the old bolts?Did they give you the right bushings/cushions too? See they were different on the Firebird as well as the length of the bolt, but I can't remember if the bolt diameter was smaller on the FireBird. Oh well, if ya did one at a time it shouldn't be a problem. YOu can shift the front end over, either right or left because of the door gap by loosening the front end body bolts. There is a hole in the frame that lines up with a hole in the body near where the anchor nut is located.( the ones I assume you are changing, called #2 body bolt /bushing) Do you have the front end off? Cause what I'm saying is easier to see. Both holes are about a 1/2 in in diameter ( on the frame and in the body both sides) Just "eyeball it' ot put a short level on it with a bolt or rod sticking thru both. You may not have moved anything if everything is still bolted up. See when we set the body down on the frame we used one pin on each side to guide the body into position. Besides, the anchor nut located in the body below the pillar post , well when you go to bolt it up through the frame if your off alignment the bolt won't go in. Hope this helps ya as it's been 28 yrs since I set bodies down on the frame at the GM Norwood facility where we built the F cars from 1967-1987 and since none of my friends who have a Camaro are up right now I described what you need to do to line up the frame and body holes as well as the bolt going in the anchor nut welded inside the body floor
